Hi I'm John

I grew up in the Western United States. I am a student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a University student majoring in piano performance and studying to go to medical school. I play the piano a lot and really enjoy the classical repertoire, especially concertos. I have played piano since I was a little boy. I enjoy studying math and the sciences and look forward to working in the medical field. Research is a big part of my life, my undergraduate education and will be a part of my future medical education. I am interested in bioinformatics, biomedical engineering and math modeling. I am happily married to Allison Orgill Shumway and want to spend all of my life and eternity with her. I have a large family-2 parents and 7 siblings. I love them very much! In my spare time I like to snowboard, longboard, play soccer, basketball and volleyball, watch good movies and be with friends :). I love watching college basketball and world cup soccer. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it is the most important thing in my life. It brings happiness and meaning into my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true and I belong to it. I was baptized into the church when I was 8 years old and I told the bishop that I wanted to do just that! I have been an active member of the church since then. It is such a blessing to my family and blesses every other aspect of my life: my schooling, my work, my relationships with others, etc. Because of the church and the restored gospel I have a testimony that God is our Heavenly Father and we are His children. I know that the Savior Jesus Christ lives and that because He atoned for our sins, we can all return to live with our Father in Heaven someday. I am grateful to know this.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following my Savior. I try and do the things that He would have me do and that He himself showed me that I should do. This includes keeping myself morally worthy, respecting my body and not taking anything that would harm it, respecting others and striving to befriend all around me, and keeping in contact with the Lord and his chosen servants through study of the scriptures, prayer and church attendance on Sundays. The relationships I have with my family are an important part of my faith. Showing them how much I love them and serving them is a big part of living my faith.
