Hi I'm Marybeth

I'm from Wyoming, I love to learn, and I am glad to be a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student at BYU. In April 2014 I'll graduate with a bachelor's degree in special education. I'll be qualified to teach people with mild-moderate disabilities, K-12. I recently served a mission in Nicaragua (see photo), and it was a really happy time because everything I did was focused on Christ and helping other people. I love to read. I like to play racquetball, frisbee, basketball, and soccer.

Why I am a Mormon

The teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints make me happy. I have felt my Heavenly Father's love, and I know that he truly is my father. He knows me, and he knows everyone who has ever been or will ever be on this earth. If I lose a loved one, I know that I can with him again. I can receive very personal answers directly from my Father in Heaven. When I have felt alone or lost, the Holy Ghost, the comforter, has brought me peace. When I have done wrong, I have been able to repent and be forgiven. I can be confident that I really am following Jesus and learn how to be more like him.

How I live my faith

I try to align my life with what Jesus has taught us to do. I really do have the desire to follow him and go where he wants me to go. I believe that the happiest life is one that is centered on Jesus Christ and his teachings. I know that his grace with give me the strength and ability to do what is right, and that is a very big comfort for me. I try to live the commandments and serve others. Since I still mess up, I pray for forgiveness and I also know that we can receive forgiveness as we feel sorry for our mistakes and depend on Christ to strive to become better. It really is a big priority to me to remember him and honor his sacrifice. I try to follow the special feelings I get that guide me to do right. I know that I can return to live with him and my heavenly father. That's my biggest goal, and I know that it's possible for anyone.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Marybeth
Joseph Smith was a boy who lived in New York. His father owned a farm, and Joseph worked on it. When Joseph Smith was growing up, there was a big religious revival. There were many preachers and many churches. Even though Joseph Smith was young, he was truly concerned about being saved. When he was fourteen, he read in James, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." He had the faith to act on what he believed to be true, so he went into a grove of trees and prayed for forgiveness of his sins and also for direction. He received a vision and was called by God to restore the church of Christ in it's fullness. He received revelations on our relationship with God, baptism, and the eternal nature of the family. Joseph Smith was persecuted from the time he was 14 until he was killed by a mob. Even though he was mocked, beaten, driven out of his home, tarred and feathered, and wrongly imprisoned, he never denied the fact that he had seen God and his son, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
