Hi I'm A. Hatton

I'm a songwriter, blogger, graduate student, and Latter-day Saint.

About Me

I grew up in semi-rural Kentucky as one of the only Latter-day Saints in the county. I love music and have written songs since I was a teenager. I have lived all over the United States, and I spend a great deal of time studying history, psychology, and music. I like music so much that I run a blog that features Latter-day Saint musicians, and even have a podcast.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe God wants me to be a Mormon. I remember when I was 20 years old, I received a revelation from God that told me that the Book of Mormon was true and that I needed to serve a mission for him. Now, six years later, I am married to my wife for eternity and still reading the Book of Mormon and Bible as often as I can. I love being Mormon because I can still be myself, and have a testimony of the restored Gospel. Lastly, I am a Mormon because it brings me closer to my Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus was a perfect example. He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane for the sins of the world. He was arrested and put before an unfair system that condemned Him to death. He was tortured with a whip and a crown of thorns. He dragged a cross until He could drag it no more. He was nailed to that cross by cruel soldiers. Yet, in His dying moments on the cross, he prayed to God and asked God to forgive them, for they knew not what they did. Herein lies the victory of Christ: He is our advocate before the Father. He pleads for us when we try our best, even though our best falls short of the glory of God. This is my testimony of Jesus Christ, and His Church.

How I live my faith

I teach the 12-13 year-olds in my ward. I have taught several classes for Church, including one called Gospel Doctrine which is for adults in the ward. I served a mission for the Church for two years in Texas.

Are there restrictions based on race or color concerning who can join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have the priesthood?

A. Hatton
There is no racial requirement for entrance into God's kingdom. Jesus doesn't care what color we are, what clothing we can afford, how we wear our hair, whether we're a carpenter or a plumber or a doctor or a politician. I happen to be a songwriter. What Jesus cares about is whether we go to Him, confess our sins, partake of His saving ordinances, and live a life as closely to His teachings as we can. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

A. Hatton
I am a Mormon, and I am a Christian. I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God in the flesh. I believe He suffered and died for my sins. I have prayed to God and asked Him to forgive me of my many sins through my Savior Jesus Christ who suffered for them. I know that through Jesus Christ, I can return to live with my family after this life in God's kingdom. To me, that is as Christian as you can get. Show more Show less
