Hi I'm Shirley Gabriela

I'm a Latina, an athlete, a teacher, a sister, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am Mexican-Guatemalan-American.I am a full-time Math Teacher. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love playing sports, anything and everything, especially volleyball, basketball, and badminton. Not only do I get to play sports but I also get to coach volleyball at the high school I teach at.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I grew up in the Church, my parent didn't. They tried to teach me the best they could to follow Jesus Christ and His teachings. Those truths they taught me have brought me and my family the greatest happiness. At one point in my life, I had to choose for myself if I wanted to believe in this. I prayed and I knew it was in God's plan for me to be part of His Church. Yes, life still is hard. But I know that I can have my Savior's help to get through it. The plan of salvation is awesome.

How I live my faith

I attend church each week and absolutely love it. I am active in the women's organization and love to feel the unity of the faith of the other women.

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Shirley Gabriela
It is true that He appeared in North America. I have read that account in the Book of Mormon many times but even more importantly, I have prayed to know if that is true. It is! Show more Show less

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Shirley Gabriela
There is a wide range of personalities in Mormon women, but I would generally like to say that Mormon women are strong women who try to follow God. They are mothers, grandmothers, working professionals, young adults all striving to live Christ's teachings they best way possible. As for equality of men and women, I believe that we are all equal in God's eyes. In our church, men have a greater responsibility of the priesthood, but that doesn't mean that women don't do anything. We have the women's organization that blesses the Lord's children through service and compassionate act. As women in the church, we can receive all of the same blessings that men can.
