Hi I'm Dan Skene

I live in Idaho. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I didn't grow up as an active Mormon. Even though I was baptized when I was 9 years old I didn't attend church until I was 15. After we moved from Southern California to Eastern Idaho I started attending church. I served a mission in Bolivia and then attended college in Idaho. I met my wife and it was love at first site as we were engaged 10 days later. I've been married for 30 years and have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. I love to spend time with my family and in my spare time I love fly fish and play basketball.

Why I am a Mormon

When I first heard the Plan of Happiness at the age of 15, it sounded familiar to me. I didn't have a father growing up so I really wanted to make sure my children had a father that was there and that my wife had a husband that was always there for her. The Lord's Plan of Happiness and the ability to have an Eternal family made a lot of sense to me and the spirit testified to me that it was true. Knowing that I can be with my wife and family after this life brings me great comfort and happiness. I feel like I have been led and guided by my Heavenly Father and the Savior my entire life. I know the Savior of the world is Jesus Christ and it is only through him that we can be forgiven and be able to return home to be with Him and our Heavenly Father after this life. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and the Holy Spirit has testified to me that it is true. I love the stories in the Book of Mormon when the resurrected Savior came to the American continent and visited the former inhabitants of this land. I still have much to learn and improve in my life and I am grateful for the inspired teachings of living prophets and apostles that The Lord has provided to lead His church in our time.

How I live my faith

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I have had the opportunity to serve in various positions in the church. Each of these "callings" have helped me to grow spiritually and given me the opportunity to serve others. I currently have the opportunity to speak to various congregations in our local area on a fairly regular basis. I enjoy the preparation that I must do to speak on various topics. I need to study the scriptures and pray to understand exactly what it is that I need to say. I also need to live my daily life in such a way as to be ready to receive the inspiration that I need when preparing to speak. I also try to incorporate stories from my life and my family when I speak. I have found that applying the scriptures to our daily lives helps to better understand the scriptures.
