Hi I'm Eric

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married to an amazing woman. I'm a dad. I grew up in Virginia but now live in Washington state. I love to garden. I'm a lawyer.

Why I am a Mormon

Like everyone who has made the decision to join the Church, or like me, stay with the Church I was raised in, I had to pray sincerely and ask my Heavenly Father if it was right. I've had confirming witnesses and answers to my prayers so many times. I follow Jesus Christ as my Savior and Redeemer. I know He lives and loves me. I know He has suffered for my sins so I don't have to bear the full penalty for them. I find great hope and peace in trying to follow His commandments. I believe the church He established was changed by men over time but that it has been re-established today. Living prophets have once again been called to teach us about God and His love for us. These teachings are the basis for the happiness I feel and for the knowledge of where I can turn when things get hard as they do from time to time. The Gospel of Christ fills me with hope.

How I live my faith

For me, being a Mormon is much more than attending church, paying my tithing, keeping commandments, and serving in Church assignments. It is seeking a change of heart that enables me to be a better follower of Jesus Christ. Reading and studying the scriptures, praying frequently, and listening to the promptings or whisperings of the Holy Ghost helps me serve others. I partake of the Lord's sacrament almost every week on Sunday and reflect on my past week, acknowledging my weaknesses, seeking forgiveness for my sins. I want my beliefs to reflect in what I do as a lawyer trying to be a peacemaker in our justice system. My faith reveals to me that I have much to do to become what my Heavenly Father wants me to be and it encourages me and gives me hope that despite my shortcomings, I am loved and blessed in so many ways.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

It starts with me. I strive to keep my thoughts pure, to respect women as daughters of God. I avoid situations where pornography is a temptation. My wife and I teach these things to our children. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

With up's and down's and struggles and joys. We avoid alcohol, tobacco, tea and coffee, but I don't get as much exercize as I should. I'm a lawyer and I spend long days at the office. I love to garden and spend time with my family. I serve in my community and love my friends and fellow-workers. My wife and I enjoy our Friday "date nights". Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven't we always had the Bible?

After Jesus was crucified and the apostles were taken, the presiding priesthood authority to direct the Church was lost from the earth. Paul talked of a "falling way." False doctrine gradually crept in among surviving members of the Church. Paul also spoke of a restoration. I believe that restoration of the fullness of the Gospel began in 1820 when the Father and the Son appeared to 14 year old Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
