Hi I'm Mike

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up Catholic and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 19. My wife and I had our marriage "sealed" in a Mormon temple. We believe that marriages can last for eternity and the first step in this process is a special sealing ceremony in a temple. We have four grown children and nine grand-children. My career has had two major chapters: 20 years in the computer industry and 10 years helping the poorest of the poor gain economic and social self-reliance. I fill in the empty spaces with hobbies and projects: fly-fishing, raising cattle, making honey, golf and reading.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a truth seeker. I believe there is one path for all of mankind because God is intentional in His design and perfect in His love. I have lived this religion for 30+ years and it continues to ring true. It gives me peace and purpose. It is not "just another church". It's for real.

How I live my faith

Recently I served as a Mission President for the church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This was a very intense, but fulfilling, full-time three-year volunteer assignment. I lead, trained, supervised, helped and loved 350 young Mormon missionaries. My wife and I moved from Seattle to Philadelphia in order to do this. We returned to the Seattle area when our assignment was finished in July 2010. I strive to be a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. I really believe in that Jesus Christ taught us how to live, think and even breathe. I'm a work in progress, but I have great confidence in the direction I have chosen to follow. My life is centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ -- I don't have a separate philosophy of life. I find great satisfaction in this -- intellectually, spiritually and emotionally.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Mike
Jesus didn't pay his ministers. The organizational model of the Church allows for infinite and exponential worldwide growth. Regular men and women are asked to volunteer their time and talents to help build the Kingdom of God. It's a brilliant, inspired system that works in all countries, all cultures and all continents. There will never be a shortage of priests or ministers because we grow from the inside out. Show more Show less
