Hi I'm Brian

I grew up as a confused atheist, but now I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've completed both an undergrad and graduate degree in Physics and teach high school computer science, physics, and robotics, with other technology electives on the side. I've been happily married for over 5 years now. I did research on carbon nanotubes, make electronics in my spare time, and have fun playing and laughing with my two young boys.

Why I am a Mormon

I went to several churches with my parents and several churches with my friends and things just didn't sit right. One time a minister got excommunicated for looking at porn on the church computer and none of my friends really even believed what their churches taught them anyway. Then one day I overheard someone talking about how after Christ organized the Church, the truth was slowly distorted as people changed this and that to fit their liking - eventually breaking into the hundreds of denominations that I found so confusing. But God restored the truth and brought forth a second witness of Jesus Christ called the Book of Mormon, a sacred set of scripture translated by a prophet on the earth in modern times. The truth is back on the earth again and I've chosen to be a part of it.

How I live my faith

I really enjoy my Church responsibilities. I teach our mens' group once a month or so and really like to share my experiences of how I came to have faith and help other people to make it through their challenging times through faith in Christ. I also like to read my scriptures each day so that I can learn more about the gospel - a lifetime of learning will never be enough I enjoy it so much!

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

My wife is awesome. She's really creative and I appreciate the balance and insight she brings to my life. We complement each other well. I'm really task-oriented and that sort of makes me self-centered in a way because when I'm on autopilot I just go about doing whatever's on my list of things to do. But my wife helps me to reach out, think of others more, and remember Christ's teachings to love others as myself. We make a good team. Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

When I first was invited to Church I was a little apprehensive of the unknown but quickly discovered that lots of people at my school that I knew and respected also attended the congregation I went to. Everyone was happy to see me and even people I didn't know welcomed me and was glad I was there. Definitely come! It's worth it! Show more Show less

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

When only a few weeks pregnant with our first child, my wife and I got to hear the baby's heartbeat. What an exciting experience! I played the recording again and again. The love that we felt as a family, over our little son - and that we continue to experience every day. Jesus taught that we should love others, especially little children. In this age of selfish adult wishes we need to focus less on lust and more on true love - the eternal love that families provide. I can't imagine how life would be without my little ones and the tremendous joy we have as a family. Show more Show less
