Hi I'm Kay Port

I've lived 42 years in Northern Utah, I am LDS, also known as a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 6 children, 2 boys and 4 girls. My biggest hobby is Family History, finding ancestors who are on my family tree. I use both Roots Magic and Legacy programs to track over 5000 known family members.

Why I am a Mormon

Simply stated Mormonism is following the teachings of Jesus Christ and keeping the commandments as prescribed in the Bible and Book Of Mormon and other writings. I was born into the church but went through my own conversion as I attended Seminary during and after High School. Reading the Bible then having many of the Bible teachings reaffirmed as I read the Book Of Mormon helped in converting me to the truth of God's word. My testimony is the greatest gift I've received from Our Father in Heaven, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Second greatest gift is the blessing of prayer. To know I can personally communicate with deity is an awesome blessing on ones life. I appreciate it more than any other freedom in life. It is through study and prayer that I've received my Testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. The third blessing is that I feel good when I'm doing service in the church. It makes me feel loved, needed, and satisfied that helping another brings happiness into their life and lightens their burden.

How I live my faith

My present calling in the LDS Church with my wife is as Church Librarian. We love this service calling which provides support service for many organizations in the church to help preparing, presenting and provide support materials for their lesson presentations. Another one of my favorite callings is as a home teacher were we go out to assigned families and present a message from the Church Presidency each month by spending approximately one half hour teaching gospel principles derived from scripture study. It also helps immensely in getting to know our neighbors.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Kay Port
There is a set of standards, rules, and laws, that need be obeyed in order to enter the Temple as a worthy member. If found worthy one is able to enter the Temple to do work for themselves or for their kindred dead. There is nothing secret, just sacred ordinances performed in the temple such as family sealings, temple marriages, and baptisms for the dead. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

Kay Port
At death the spirit leaves our body. The physical part is honored and buried. The spiritual part returns to the spirit world. It remains there until the person is resurrected in accordance with the Lord's gift he granted by taking away deaths sting. During that time after death many activities will be processing. We will continue to work in accomplishing learning, teaching, and preparing for the Lord's return to the Earth for the winding up scene. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Kay Port
Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. We accept him as a Prophet of God and know him as responsible for the restoration of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also translated the Book of Mormon from ancient plates that were kept by authors many hundreds of years ago. Show more Show less
