Hi I'm Scott Cheever

I'm a dual careerist; dentist and Army Reserve officer, motorcyclist, snowboarder, speak Russian.

About Me

Married and have two adult children . I've served four short tours in Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan with the Army. My wife and I volunteer one evening a week as ordinance workers at our nearby temple. This is often the highlight of the week. I ride motorcycles and like winter sports as well. Bottom line: I'm a basic guy with extraordinary knowledge; that being the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I define myself first as member of the church. All other titles and descriptive words follow. I'm lucky and blessed. My parents set my feet on a solid ground. I now seek to help others find direction and stability. My wife and I focus on things that are first of eternal worth, then on the temporal. Its working out pretty well.

Why I am a Mormon

Want peace in this life? Hugh Nibley said: "Our gospel of Christ is cut and fashioned to weather the strain of perfectly horrible environments, and where ever you have the gospel...that is heaven in the awareness of its truth. We may have a fullness of joy at anytime". I'd be lost if not for the gospel of Jesus Christ...it's everything.

How I live my faith

Constant reading. After study comes the challenge of implementation. My faith is everything; it's the oxygen in the air I breath.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Scott Cheever
It's called tithing. In a way it hurts donating 10% of my income to the church, but who's church is it? It's supposed to test us, try us, or it wouldn't be a sacrifice, would it? The pain of giving is the point! Did the ancients enjoy sacrificing their finest animals to the Lord? Probably not, but's it's part of faith. All of god's people have had skin in the game somehow. I pay and never regret. Does God keep his promises? so far, ya. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Scott Cheever
We believe it, of course. Its holy scripture and testifies of the Father, his Son, and the Holy Ghost via ancient Hebrew prophets, patriarchs, etc. I enjoy the knowledge and wisdom mined from the Old Testament. I can't read it without feeling awe for God's mercy, power, and long-suffering. And, it makes the NT and modern scripture so much more relevant! Show more Show less
