Hi I'm Melodie Sue

I was raised along the Oregon Coast in a large family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have eight children and two grandchildren. I enjoy hiking and camping. My favorite place in all the world is the Oregon Coast. I love the mountains and the forest.

Why I am a Mormon

I wasn't raised in the Mormon religion but when I was 21 I had a baby and wanted to raise him in a better way. I began looking at different religions. a friend invited us over to watch a movie about the LDS church and gave us a Book of Mormon. As I began reading the book I felt that it was truly inspired of God. I shared some passages with my husband and called the missionaries to come teach us. We joined the church shortly thereafter. I have gained a love for my Savior and His teachings as I've continued to live a faith based life.

How I live my faith

I try to follow the teachings of the Savior. I'm raising my children to know about Their Father in Heaven and The Savior. The members of the church are also sometimes asked to do assigned jobs. I have done a lot of things in the church. I was in charge of a women's group, a group of teenage girls, and a group of children. I have also organized social events for my church group. Right now I am teaching a class of women. I really enjoy this. I've gotten great satisfaction out of the different jobs I've had in the church.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Melodie Sue
We can come to know Him as we study His words and as we keep the commandments. We must first have faith that He is real. We must be willing to live by His words. As we do this we will develop a love for Him and we will come to know Him. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Melodie Sue
Just as there were prophets in Old Testament times I believe there is a prophet on the earth today willing to follow the will of the Lord. I am glad that we have someone that can pray for guidance from above and can help us in these challenging times. We need prophets now as much as at any time in history. I don't believe God has left us alone to face these challenges. Show more Show less

Why don't Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church's law of health and proper diet?

Melodie Sue
The simple answer is it's better for you. The longer answer is that when your body and mind aren't under the influence of things that can harm them you're better able to follow the teachings of the Savior. I smoked, used alcohol, and other harmful substances, and drank coffee before I began coming to church. The most surprising thing to me was what happened when I stopped drinking coffee. I didn't realize what an impact that one habit had on my life. I now have energy when I wake up. Who knew? Of course Alcohol destroys lives and smoking kills so I'm glad I gave them up too. It's hard at first to quit but the rewards are worth it. Show more Show less
