Hi I'm Marshall

I love life!

About Me

I love life! I love it! But it is so short! We are all going to die at some point. When I realized this I couldn't help but ask myself: "How can I be happy in this life?" - "What happens when I die? Is that it?" - "If God exists, who or what is he, and what is my relationship to him?" Now that I have the answers to these questions I spend most of my time enjoying this life, while preparing myself for what's next.

Why I am a Mormon

The teachings of Jesus Christ are the most profound explanations of life I have ever discovered. However, there are a lot of interpretations of these teachings in many different religious forms. There are a lot of different interpretations of the nature of God. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the most honest church I have ever met. It does not encourage people to simply accept its teachings out of convenience, nor does it threaten people to believe its teachings out of fear. It teaches people to trust and know God, and to look to Him for life's answers. I know that God lives just as well as I know that I am alive. And I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His church.

How I live my faith

I like people. I like helping them. I find that I am most able to help people when I understand and do God's will. I would say the best way to understand God's will is to study what God has already done, in the scriptures, like the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I would say the best way to know, and then do, God's will is to pray. Helping people, studying scripture, praying to know, and then doing God's will is how I live my faith.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven't we always had the Bible?

The Bible contains a history of God's dealings with us. Many of the events found in the Bible describe how God would choose a spokesman, called a prophet, who would communicate with God and then lead the people who desired to follow God. Simply knowing that God had called prophets in the past is not the same as having a living prophet to lead and guide us today. After the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the death of his Apostles, the church of Jesus Christ was eventually dissolved. Many people continued to teach Christ's teachings, and the teachings of the prophets, all of which are found in the Bible, but no one was receiving communication and authority from God to lead those who desired to follow Him. That is why there was a Restoration of the Gospel. This event refers to when God called Joseph Smith to be His prophet (in 1820) to lead again all those who desire to follow God. The Church of Jesus Christ was re-established (in 1830) and named The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. God has continued to call prophets since. God's living prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. Show more Show less
