Hi I'm Darren

I'm a converted Mormon.

About Me

I am from central Kentucky. I am an engineer who just recently completed my first marathon and then my first triathlon (a sprint). I am the father of four and much to the annoyance of people around me, I love to sing. I like to climb rocks and have recently caught the personal fitness bug.

Why I am a Mormon

Where can you start...? I am a Mormon, because a blessed person shared the life preserver with me. My uncle was from a Mormon family, but had never participated himself in the church. He and his family (who were our nextdoor neighbors) began to receive visits from people that drove a 1974 baby blue Ford Pinto. We were playing hide and seek in our cul-de-sac one evening, when my cousin alerted us that "The Mormons are coming!" I did not really know what a Mormon was, but I could tell by the alarm and foreboding in her eyes that it was not good. We ran to the their door and sounded the alarm. Quickly, my aunt and uncle shut off the lights and we took cover in the bushes. The car pulled up and the two missionaries and an older gentleman got out. They went to the door and rang. No response. They tried again. Still no answer. Puzzled and a bit dejected, they left. Fortunately for me, they did not give up! My uncle and his family were converted and then they shared with us. I was 11 years old at my conversion. There has not be a single nanosecond in the subsequent decades that I have regretted that decision.

How I live my faith

I am working with youth and encouraging them to enter the fields of Science, Math, and Engineering.
