Hi I'm Matt.

I grew up in the U.S. and have lived in Portugal and West Africa. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up, I loved being involved in sports and spending time outdoors. I was fortunate from an early age to have the opportunity to associate with people of many different faiths and ethnic backgrounds. Today, I have a wife who means the world to me, and we have been blessed with four wonderful children. I am an attorney and continue to enjoy being active in sports and introducing my young boys to the outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up in a home where the faith of my parents was Mormon, my father grew up in the Presbyterian faith. He decided to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while in college at the age of 24. I reached a point in my teenage years where I felt I wanted to know if the current faith of my parents was true. Through prayer and a study of the scriptures, I received an answer from God that this religion is true. When I turned 19, I volunteered to serve a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Portugal and West Africa. I had a life changing experience during these two years, and my conviction that this religion is true was strengthened. I have continued to follow the Mormon faith ever since and share what I have come to know with my 3 children. I have a burning conviction in my heart that the teachings found in this church are Jesus Christ's teachings, and I find peace and happiness daily in my life as I try to follow these teachings.

How I live my faith

I try my best to live my faith by looking for ways to be involved in service that will hopefully help the lives of my family, friends and neighbors, and the community. For nearly 4 years, I volunteered to help young teenage boys in the Boy Scouts of America program and our church's youth program. I loved helping these young people develop strong moral character and to become helpful, productive citizens and to find a personal faith in God. In my work and studies, I strive to be honest in everything I do and to build lasting friendships with colleagues and classmates. Most importantly to me, I try to be a supportive and loving husband to my wife and a loving father who is involved in the lives of my four children.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

I am grateful that God continues to speak to us today through a living prophet and apostles as he did anciently. It confirms to me that God loves us now just as He did in times past. In this changing world in which we live with mass amounts of information to sift through to find truth, I am comforted to know that God continues to provide guidance for how to navigate through our experiences in life through a living prophet. I know that these men were called of God, because I have prayed to God to ask Him, and He has answered my prayers. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

The doctrine that families can live together forever, and not just until death is one of the most comforting doctrines for me in my life. It also gives me perspective in the trials and challenges my family and go through to know that there is more to our existence than just this time right now. Show more Show less
