Hi I'm Cliff

I'm a technology-nut and Software Engineer in BC, Canada. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Software Engineering Manager at a mid-sized software company. I help build software that enables people around the world to buy and sell used, rare and out-of-print books. I have a Masters degree in Computer Sciences and I love to run, ride my bike, Scuba dive and snowboard. I used to DJ and Skateboard, but that is behind me now. I have tried my hand at novel writing but I haven't tried to publish anything yet. If I have spare time I like to create applications for iOS. I am also a Ham radio operator and volunteer in my local community. I am a husband and a father of three terrific kids aged 13, 16 and 19. My wife is a professional photographer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family. However, that's not to say that I haven't had my own conversion experience. Through a series of experiences I had when a teenager, I came to know this church was where the Lord wanted me to be. Further experiences since then have strengthened that knowledge. I know that Jesus Christ lives and He is my savior. It is through this church that I have come to know Him better and to learn what He wants for me. I cannot imagine my life without His influence or this church.

How I live my faith

I have done many things in this church, but what I love the most is teaching. The Mormon church has given me opportunities to teach at nearly every age level. I have taught adult Sunday School classes, weeknight religion classes to college-aged students, early-morning religion classes for teen-aged youth, and even a Junior Sunday School class for pre-school children. I have been a youth activity leader, helping to organize camping trips, service projects, and educational events. I even volunteered as a DJ for teen youth dances for five years. Outside of church and work, I focus most of my time on my wife and children. We hold regular "Family Home Evenings" each week where we discuss life's challenges and how the gospel of Jesus Christ can help us with them. We like to play games together, explore the outdoors, and enjoy the beautiful place where we live.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe we are created in God's image and are His children. He loves us just as any parent would and His greatest desire is to help us become like Him. He sent His son Jesus-Christ to show us the way back to Him, and to provide a way for us to overcome our weaknesses, sins, and mistakes. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

No. I made the decision to serve a mission when I was 19, and I am very glad I did. However, many of my brother's did not. Nobody thinks more of me, or less of them, because of our decisions. Show more Show less

We believe that our spirits - the essential "us" that animates our mortal bodies - is eternal. One day our spirit and our body will be reunited as an immortal being. We will continue to live on in that immortal state, growing, learning and developing. All the while continuing to become more like our Heavenly Father. Eternal life is eternal progression. What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

The purpose of life is to grow, learn, and become more like God. Along the way, we experience what it is like to be a child, a sibling, a spouse, a parent and a grand-parent. Every opportunity in this life teaches us more about who we are, what we are capable of, and what God has in store for us. Show more Show less
