Hi I'm Weatherford Clayton

I am married and a physician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from California. My wife and I raised our children there and I worked as an obstetrician gynecologist. We recently returned from serving a mission in Toronto, Canada, where we helped several hundred young missionaries go out and serve the wonderful people of Ontario. We absolutely loved Ontario. It is beautiful! We now live in North Salt Lake. We love our friends in the community and in our ward. We live close to family and to where I work in my calling as the Seventy. My wife Lisa and I have been married for forty years now and we have five kids, all of whom are married and have families of their own. I enjoy skiing with the kids, taking long walks on the weekends, playing the guitar, fly fishing, reading books and the scriptures, and family parties. When we visit California, I enjoy the beach and surfing. I love my family. I love my church.

Why I am a Mormon

I first felt God's love as a young boy when my mother would pray with me at night before bed and when we talked as a family around the dinner table. When I was a teenager, I wanted to know for myself if Jesus was the Christ and if He and our Heavenly Father did indeed appear in a vision to the boy Joseph Smith. As I thought about the messages of the Bible and the Book of Momon and the doctrines of the gospel of Christ, I felt something in my heart that reassured me that these things are true. At age sixteen, as I knelt in sincere prayer, I had a tremendous spiritual experience. I felt a powerful, peaceful, joyous, purifying influence come over me. Because of that I knew that what I had been thinking was true. I know that what I experienced was the Holy Ghost witnessing to me that Jesus is the Christ, that He and His Father love me, and that His gospel has been restored. Following Christ has been the greatest blessing of my life. It puts everything else in perspective.

How I live my faith

I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all mankind and that He gave his life for us all. Because of His sacrifice, we can all find happiness in this life. Because of His sacrifice, we will live again and if we choose to follow Him, we can enjoy eternal life as families in our Heavenly Father's presence. Christ has shown us the path to receive all the blessings that He offers. That path is simple: develop faith in Him, repent (be a little better every day), be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost, and then persist in happy discipleship for the rest of our lives. I try every day to follow Jesus' example by keeping the ten commandments. I treat other people with respect and love. I do my best to be a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend. I read the scriptures regularly, attend church, pray with my family and strive to be a good neighbor. I try to do what Jesus would do if He were in my place. I strive to be the kind of man that He instructed us to be in the scriptures. The scriptures call this living after the manner of happiness. I have found that by living this way, I truly am happier.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Weatherford Clayton
Christ said that if we would come to Him, He would give us rest. I have found that when we as a family follow His example, there is greater peace in our home. As we pray together, have meals together, go to church together, love each other, and share our faith with each other, things go much, much better. We are able to communicate more effectively with each other and we are more supportive of each other. We find that petty irritations, differences and offenses don't bother us as much and that we are more united in our marriage and work more effectively as a team. Our friendships with others are richer and our capacity to deal with the difficulties of life is definitely greater. We feel His love and know as a family that His promise of giving us rest is real. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Weatherford Clayton
I truly believe that God speaks to us today through living prophets just like He did in the Old and New Testament. I am certain that this is true. How comforting it is to know that God loves us enough to actually speak to us through living prophets. Show more Show less
