Hi I'm Bridgette

I'm a wife, mom, and grandma. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love reading good books, listening to beautiful music, researching my genealogy, quilting, photography, and playing games with family and friends. My husband and I have a blended family. I have 3 children and he has 6. We raised them all together in our home, (except for his oldest daughter who had already left home before we met). Most of the older children are married now, with babies of their own. Being a grandma is fun - we currently have 18 grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon, and I was baptized when I was 8 years old, but that's not why I am a member of this church. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints contains fully the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is complete, and it all makes sense. That's the easy explanation. The more difficult explanation comes from my heart. When I have prayed for guidance or for answers; when I have studied the scriptures; when I have listened to the words of a living prophet, I have felt the Holy Spirit testify to me that it's all true. I have felt the guidance of God in my life too many times to doubt that this is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I want to follow God's plan for me, and I feels so good inside when I do what I know is right. I want to feel that way all the time. And that's why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

When I was baptized, I made covenants with God- that I would take the name of Jesus Christ, always remember Him, and obey His commandments. And that's how I try to live my life. It doesn't mean I don't make mistakes; I have really made a mess of my life at times. But that's the most wonderful thing about the atonement: If I come to Christ with a broken heart, and forsake my sins, I can receive His forgiveness. I love my Heavenly Father and I love Jesus Christ for this gift. I try to be a good example of my faith, and serve God, however I am asked to.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

For church we wear our "Sunday best". When we attend our Sunday meetings, women and girls wear dresses and men wear dress shirts and ties with slacks, or a suit. We believe in modesty in dress as well, so for the women and girls, most avoid wearing dresses that are sleeveless or above the knee. In the United States we celebrate all the American and Christian holidays. We love celebrating and getting together as family and friends. I have tried to focus less on Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny in my home, and more on the reasons that we celebrate Christmas and Easter: Jesus Christ. Along with all the traditional Christmas decorations in my home: Santa, reindeer, stockings, etc., we display Nativities and we always have a Christmas pageant with our neighbors, where we re-enact the Nativity scene and read from the Bible.
