Hi I'm Renee

I am a mother, and a granny with a PhD. I am from Miami, Florida. I am a Mormon!

About Me

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. The 60's were challenging times. Being American and Mormon was not minority enough. My parents were divorced, in-active, I smelled of cigarette smoke, and lived in the inner city. But I saw what I wanted my life to be in the Miami Second Ward. I went to BYU wanting an education and found a husband, a convert who chose to be a member of the Church and honorable holder of the Priesthood. He liked me too, that helped a lot! I was married at 18 and we had our first child just before I turned 20. Together we bore and raised six children. I eventually finished college. We had an agreement, I would not decorate the house as long as he kept me in school. I got a PhD. in Research and Evaluation and our home remained in his style "As it is" more or less. We have been married 42 years, I would still like to update our home but instead we keep finding things to do serving the Lord. We served a Mission in Peru and there met and served with absolutely wonderful people. We returned home a month early, due to a broken leg. that was compounded by a broken arm. We spent more time together after our mission than during it. In the year since I have secured plenty of scrap booking and card making supplies. I have completed a few sewing projects-I really missed my sewing machine in Peru. We currently have a daughter, her husband and two daughters living with us. They add sparkle and life to our our home, not to mention backpacks and shoes!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have read the Book of Mormon, the Bible, the Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and Joseph Smith History. I have received confirmation by the Spirit that they are true. I was raised is somewhat difficult circumstances but saw what I wanted for my life and the lives of my children and would not let go. though I do not have all the answers I trust the Lord does. Until the time when all things are made known I have faith. I know who is in control and will do all I can to choose His way.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday although not perfectly. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is my greatest joy, my only hope. I adore teaching and talking of Christ I am a happy, outgoing individual who can talk to anyone, and often do. I still struggle with daily personal scripture study. I can read regularly but have not invested in deep study as much as I feel is necessary. I do attend a class on the Old Testament weekly in addition to regular Sunday services. It is a great class and it often spurs me to study harder. I have come to love the Old Testament. This week I will order and begin yet another style or program of study. I have heard rave reviews and followed the author on Facebook before. I have been sincerely impressed by her work and believe I will enjoy and follow through on this program. I and my husband have recently been asked to serve a full-time (32 hours a week or more) mission. We will live at home an serve the people of our own area. I am excited about the opportunity but somewhat concerned about how I can manage everything. My ailing 84 year old mother lives only a mile away from us. She no longer drives, although she really wants to, so I am her connection to the world. I have no siblings who can help. I am it. It wears me out at times but i can honestly say I am grateful for the opportunity to serve her as she has served me and my family for so many years. I have organized both large and small scale activities over the years. I have designed and built floats for parades. My faith has led me at times to get "in over my head"; but faith in the Lord and angels (people who listen to the Spirit and volunteer to help) have seen me through. I have been blessed and tried. Life is not easy but worth all the effort I can give it. .
