Hi I'm Kristen

I grew up in California. I love science. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Southern California. I love the beach, the weather, and everything about California. I graduated with a degree in physiology and developmental biology a few years ago. I work at a biotechnology company producing cutting edge cancer therapies. I love science and literature. I love to do yoga. I am married to an amazing husband who is a combat veteran recently separated from the United States Navy.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been someone who loves to know the truth. I was blessed to be born to parents who taught me about the church my entire life. I know that something that has made me so happy and brought so much good to my life is true. The scriptures and prophets have always and will continue to provide us commandments from our Heavenly Father because these are the things that will provide us with true happiness in our lives. I know that our Heavenly Father gives us commandments so that we will be happy. I know that the principles that are taught in scriptures are true and will lead us to the most fulfilling life possible. I love that I can seek truth through my Heavenly Father and revelation as well as through the scientific principles I have learned. I love that these truths reinforce each other. I have really come to love being a Mormon because I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ will always be a constant in my life. I know that I can trust in my Heavenly Father and he will direct me to the things that I should do to be happy and serve others. The gospel has given me motivation to great things and taught me what is truly meaningful in this life. I know that the way we treat other people will truly be what matters when we leave this life. I know that God is there and he loves us. I know that the gospel is what strengthens me to learn from all the trials of life and compels me to grow as a person.

How I live my faith

I serve as a leader and teacher to the Young Women at church. I love to interact with them and help them develop their talents. Working with youth is so amazing because they have so much potential and so many opportunities ahead of them. I hope to teach them in such a way that they can develop the confidence necessary to be strong and educated women who know what matters most in life. I spend most of my time off of work studying lessons, organizing activities, and volunteering at youth camp with these young women. I love that I have an opportunity to work with them and they amaze me with enthusiasm and talents every time I see them.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Kristen
Women and men have different eternal identities. We believe that gender is eternal and that women and men have different natures, talents, and strengths. Women have been blessed with the tendency to nurture and love. We have been blessed with the ability to have children if we choose. Men simply have a different role to fulfill as a provider and protector, I can honestly say that women are treated with the utmost respect in the church. I have always been taught about my value and intelligence. I have been built up so much through the doctrines of the gospel. I have been motivated to educate myself and seek out the things that I enjoy. I have also been given many opportunities to develop leadership skills from a very young age. Its also interesting to note that holding the priesthood is in no way a self serving privilege. Women and men benefit equally from the blessings that come from the priesthood which is really the power to act in God's name. No man can use the priesthood to benefit or build up himself. He must use it only to serve others. Women are given the opportunity to teach and do missionary work in the church the same as men. Men and women enjoy the same ordinances in the church. Men and women always enjoy the same blessings from heavenly father. Show more Show less
