Hi I'm Joel

I grew up near Seattle, WA but now I live in Austin, TX. I am a software engineer. I love tennis and basketball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I think of myself as a pretty average guy. I spend a lot of time with my family. We love to watch movies together and have parties with friends. I can be competitive but in a fun way. I love to play tennis, basketball, disc golf, golf, ping pong, and just about any board or card game.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Mormon church when I was 18 years old. I knew in my heart there had to be a purpose to this life but I didn't think any organized religion had the answers. It was only by chance that I came in contact with the church but I used the opportunity to find out what Mormon's believed. To my surprise their teachings made sense and aligned with many ideas that I already had about life and God. I had to know more. After taking the lessons from the missionaries and reading the Book of Mormon I received my personal witness from the Holy Ghost that what I was learning was true. I knew that my Heavenly Father was real and that Jesus Christ was his only begotten son and my Savior. I decided to be baptized and I never looked back.

How I live my faith

After nearly 30 years in the church I have served in the church in many ways. Not long after my baptism I served a full-time mission in Melbourne Australia for 2 years. It was rewarding to serve and help others learn the truths of the gospel. After returning home I served in my local ward as an advisor to the single adults, a sunday school teacher, a ward mission leader, Elder quorum president, bishopric member and many other positions. It is a great blessing to serve in the church and in the community. I try to live my religion everyday. My happiness comes from the peace I receive when I feel close to God and Jesus Christ.
