Hi I'm Judy

I'm a convert of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

About Me

I grew up in a family where religion wasn't important at all. I began my journey as a young child watching evangelists on television. This is where my love for my Savior began. At age 10 I bought my own Bible. I treasured those teachings but really understood little about what I was reading. I got no help or encouragement from my parents. I loved the Ten Commandments and tried living them the best I could. I did understand, though, that I needed to be baptized in order to return to live with God and Jesus again. However, I had no idea which church to join. It never crossed my mind that Jesus Christ's church had been restored to earth. I just wanted to get baptized but at the same time be able to keep my bad habits of smoking, drinking tea, and an occasional alcoholic beverage. Priesthood authority never crossed my mind. At 19 years old the missionaries knocked at my door. They were just what I needed in my life. They answered all my questions I'd had growing up. Life hasn't been easy but having the Gospel in my life and a personal relationship with my beloved Savior has made the trials bearable.

Why I am a Mormon

I had many questions growing up: Where is the drawing line between heaven and hell; Why is marriage only until "death do us part"? Why was coffee and cigarettes okay for my parents but when I asked for them I was told they weren't good for me. I used to wonder at what point would they be good for me! During elementary school when we were learning about American history, it struck me when Montezuma called Cortez "The Great White Spirit"! I remember wondering how he knew about Jesus since Jesus was from the other side of the world. Thankfully The Book of Mormon answered that question! When I prayed about whether the church was really true or not, I got a most distinct answer to my prayer and one I wasn't expecting either. That answer has stayed with me for over 40 years.

How I live my faith

The Gospel is precious to me because I lived without it for 19 years. One of my favorite and most dreaded callings was Ward Activities Committee Chairman. When I was called to that position I was sick to my stomach. Surely the bishop had gotten his communication wires crossed with heaven. I'm the most untalented person ever. The idea of putting on activities for the ward scared me to death. However, since I am very missionary minded, I accepted the calling and was able to call inactive brothers and sisters in the ward to help with the various activities. I used the calling as a reactivation tool. This calling taught me so much about myself but also to depend upon my Heavenly Father, in faith, when a new calling is extended. How thankful I am for this faith-promoting calling.

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Christ is not the author of confusion and neither is His Church. The church is organized by geographic boundaries. This enables the bishopric to know where the members are, especially in case of emergencies the Church is able to send out members to help others in need. Show more Show less

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

I love the fact that Christ was concerned about His "Other Sheep which are not of this fold. Them also I must bring and they shall hear my voice". How I love how He loves me unconditionally. This makes me want to be better each day. Show more Show less
