Hi I'm Bob

I grew up in Iowa. I create new rockets and energetic materials that make them fly and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a scientist by profession and education. My faith is one based on the conviction that a complete religion is a search for truth. I grew up in central Iowa and received Bachelor and Doctorate degrees in Chemistry. Since school, I have worked over twenty years in the area of energetic materials. My career gives me great satisfaction. I like snow skiing and golf.

Why I am a Mormon

My continued involvement in the Mormon church is based on a very practical knowledge that I am a better person, better husband, father, employee and neighbor as I live the gospel of Jesus Christ as taught by the Mormon church. When I am close to the Lord, I have a better feeling about me and am more positive. It helps in every part of my life.

How I live my faith

My faith is lived first and foremost in the home and in what I do and how I live each day. I also give freely of my time to the church and enjoy helping neighbors and friends there. The most rewarding part is working with individuals to meet their needs through bringing resources of our church, neighborhood and community to bear in their lives.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Many who have the same education and career I have as a scientist do not believe in God. I see too many who have become proud in their learning often to the point of seeming arrogant. Science has taught me to have a profound sense of humility as I view the immensity, complexity and grandeur of the universe. The more I learn, the more I recognize that I know so very little compared to what is out there in the universe. My belief in God starts with this humility. As I look at our world, I am amazed at the complexity and incredible precision within the simplest organism. Yet, I do not believe in God because it seems improbable that the earth is here but rather by a humble recognition that where there is something of lessor position there is also something of greater capacity and ability. It is reasonable that there will be someone of greater knowledge, experience and power than us. God is the greatest of all and none stand above Him. I can communicate with this Being in a very personal and direct way as He is interested in my becoming everything that I can possibly become. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

My answer to this question is similar to why I would tell a good friend about a great deal at a store for something that is hard to find. I feel that the gospel Jesus Christ taught while He was on the earth is real. It contains the truths, concepts and ordinances we need to be as happy as we can. I believe significant parts were lost through the centuries after Christ ascended to heaven. It has been brought back by the Lord working through modern prophets. There can be no more important message for the world today. With all the trials, confusion and anger there is today, it is the time for the undiluted gospel of Jesus Christ to be spread again. I want to share it with everyone I know and everyone I meet. Just in the same way as if I found that bargain at a store, my wanting to share is not a negative reflection on the good in anyone else but simply the enthusiasm I have for the Gospel in the Mormon church.
