Hi I'm Gary William

I'm preparing to share the gospel for two years in Brazil.

About Me

I am 19 years old. My life right now is pretty crazy between church, friends, and work, but it's great. I love music. I play the violin and sing (although not nearly as much as I would like). I went to a semester of college and I'm studying to become a teacher. Soon I will be off to Brazil to learn Portuguese and share the happiness I've found through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I have gone to the LDS church from the time I was born, but my parents and I weren't as super active when I was young. I always enjoyed church, and when I was about 11 I started going more and more. It wasn't until I was 13 that I really recognized how I knew the church was true, but when I realized it... it was the greatest thing in the world. I have seen so many amazing blessings in my life. My family has been strengthened so much because of the church, and my friends are such a huge support to me. They inspire me to be my best self. One of the greatest blessings is having a close relationship to my Heavenly Father. He is there. I know that because He has blessed me in so many ways. He answers my prayers, and He gives me the support I need to make it through the hard times I face. I said before that my life is amazing, and it is, but everyone faces their challenges, and I am no exception, but I know that I have a Father in Heaven that loves me and a Savior who knows perfectly what I am going through. I love them, and I know they love me.

How I live my faith

When I was younger I participated in Boy Scouts and my leadership class at school which gave me some great opportunities to serve others. I also had callings (assignments) in the church which allowed me to be a leader for some of the other youth in my area. I also went to seminary every morning before school where I got to study scriptures and learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I now am a part of the young single adults congregation in my area where I sing in choir, help teach a class, and go out and teach with the missionaries. Life is soo amazing because I'm doing what I know my Heavenly Father wants me to.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Gary William
Yes. Absolutely. There is a constant attack against the commandments God has given to us. Immorality, violence, swearing, and an obsession with wealth are hugely common. There are wars and natural disasters like no other time on this earth. God's commandments have not changed, but an increasing amount of people are fighting against them. The prophet today helps to protect the faithful members of the church from the influence of those fighting against God's commandments. The Children of Israel needed someone to help them escape the bondage they were placed in by the Egyptians, and we need the prophet today to lead us out of the bondage of sin so we can have the greatest happiness... the kind of happiness our Heavenly Father wants us to have. What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Gary William
Mormon women are like other women. They are loving, strong, and amazingly wonderful. The thing I love most about the ladies of the church is the respect they have for their bodies. They are beautifully modest. The church supports the fact that one of the Eternal roles of women is that of being mothers (and an Eternal role of men as fathers). As such, men and women were created as equal partners in raising their families each with specific talents and abilities. Show more Show less

Why don't Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church's law of health and proper diet?

Gary William
Our Heavenly Father created this world for us to learn and grow. We are being tested to see if we will do what our Heavenly Father asks of us. He has given us commandments. Those commandments protect us from the things which will hurt us. Coffee, tea, and alcohol are damaging to our bodies, so our Father in Heaven has told us to stay away from them. The church's law of health and proper diet is simply in place to help us live healthy lives and make the most of ourselves. Show more Show less
