Hi I'm Gunnar

I grew up in Holland, Canada and the United States. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Holland to parents who survived prison of war camps in Indonesia. When I was young, my parents immigrated to Canada where I spent most of my early childhood. At 10, my family moved to the United States for a few years before returning to Holland when I was 12. By the time I was ready for college I had only one place in mind, Brigham Young University. While I attended BYU, my parents moved back to the United States. I took two years off from college to serve a full-time mission for my church to South Korea. This was a culture shock, even for someone like myself with such a diverse back ground. I quickly fell in love with the people and loved every minute of my time there. After college, I spent 11 years as a tennis teaching professional. I loved my time on the tennis court, however, a series of events led me to my current career as a Project Manager for a major medical device company. I enjoy building operating rooms and being part of an industry that makes a difference in the lives of so many individuals on a daily basis. I have been blessed with a beautiful wife and four incredible children. Through them I continue to understand the love my Father in heaven has for me. My family is so important to me. There is never a moment when I see them and not think how much the Lord has blessed me. Life is good!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I had the privelage of seeing the gospel of Jesus Christ in action in a number of different countries growing up, however, I never really developed my own testimony until I left for college. One summer I came to realize I really wanted to know what I grew up learning was true. I was 18 and about to go serve as a missionary for my church as that was the "thing to do" at this point in my life as a member of the Church. Through a couple of personal trials, I had the need to rely deeply on my Savior and came to know for myself of His love for me as an individual. He knew who I was. That was all I needed. I spent the next two years serving as a missionary in South Korea where my testimony grew leaps and bounds as I came to love a people by serving them and sharing the gospel with them. This helped me understand just a little bit more the love the Lord has for me. The Lord has blessed me and continues to bless me with the knowledge that he cares for me. I'm a Mormon because I know Jesus Christ lives and that through Him I can overcome my imperfections. I'm a Mormon because I know this is His Church and that he stands at the head. I'm a mormon because I know I'm a child of God and that the only way to return to live with him is by making and keeping the ordinances he has asked us to perform through his holy priesthood. I'm a mormon because I know that the authority to act in His name is on the earth today within this, His restored church.

How I live my faith

I try to live a life that is one my Father in heaven will be proud of. I'm not perfect. I make my mistakes. I try to live a life that exemplifies one who knows Jesus Christ lives. I know that because of the atonement of Jesus Christ I can overcome these mistakes. It's a daily effort that starts with prayer and scripture study. As I do this I know that the Holy Ghost will guide me to choose the right in all aspects of my life, both in my business life and my personal life. This makes me happy and I try to share that happiness with others. I love serving in the church. I have had numerous callings. Everything from teaching Sunday School to scouting and clerical work. Each calling has helped me learn more about myself and has given me the confidence to work hard. I'm a husband and a father. The gospel for me starts at home. I hope that I can help create a home where my family can enjoy the knowledge and peace that comes from kowing God lives. I know that my family can be together forever.
