Hi I'm Emily

I'm a Mormon. I am a wife, mother, teacher, and a follower of Jesus Christ.

About Me

I live in a small rural town in the United States. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I taught second grade full time before starting a family. I have two little ones and a husband who is also an educator at the secondary level. I love learning new things, music, and love to feed my creative side.

Why I am a Mormon

A few months after arriving at college, I found myself alone in my dorm room with many worries and fears weighing heavily upon me. I had been taught all my life that I could read the scriptures and receive comfort and direction at times like this. I read in Alma chapter 7 some of the prophecies about Christ's birth and life. In verses 11 and 12 the prophet Alma prophesied that Christ would suffer every kind of thing that we can suffer in this life, that Christ would even willingly suffer death so that he would be able to be merciful and know exactly how to help us when we are suffering in any way. As I read these words I felt so much love for Christ and felt of His love and His Father's love for us. I know that Christ knows us in a very personal way because he suffered everything we go through and suffered for our sins so we might not have to suffer for them if we will repent. The knowledge that God loves me and Christ loves me is the foundation of my testimony. I know that I can turn to them for direction in my life and that they care about me. I know that because God loves me, he answers my prayers and has guided me to be a member of His church so I might live his teachings and feel the joy that can only come from living after the manner he has taught. It means so much to me to know that as I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and try to do my best each day, that I will be able to be with my family for eternity. I want my children to have this same joy and peace in their lives so I study and try to be a good example and teacher for them.

How I live my faith

I try my best to do those things daily that are wholesome and increase my knowledge. Since I have very small children, I spend much of my time caring for their needs. I believe that children are gifts from our Heavenly Father, so I try to find ways to teach them about him and that he loves them. In my ward, I am involved in Primary. In Primary children ages 3-11 learn about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and what they have taught in the scriptures. I try to show the children a good example and show them how much happiness I feel as I live the gospel and try more and more each day to do what Christ would have me do. I am amazed at the capacity children have to show love, so I very much enjoy this chance to serve them. It is my hope that my actions each day are a meaningful expression of what I believe. I hope that as I pray, study the scriptures, seek for the spirit in my life and interactions with others, and serve my children and the children around me that I will show that I love Jesus Christ and his Church.

What is being a Mormon like?

It is a wonderful chance to be part of a group with common beliefs and a love for eachother. Some refer to this membership as being part of a church family because of the caring relationships that are there. As members of the church we spend time actively serving those in and out of the church. Many of the wonderful friends I have made in the church and outside of the church have come from serving others. Show more Show less
