Hi I'm Bret

I'm a Sun Devil loving, infrequent marathon running, wannabe triathlete. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in the thriving metropolis of Mesa, AZ and have lived in this desert bliss nearly all of my earthly life. I spent 2 years teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the wonderful people of Brazil, and loved every minute of it. I was lucky enough to marry the love of my life. We now have 3 wonderfully busy kids who seem to run nearly every aspect of our lives. I love to travel, scuba dive, snorkel, (bascially any watersport) play on the beach, run, bike, swim, golf, and play games. One of our favorite family vacation spots is San Carlos, a small town on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. Having hated running for most of my life, my friends somehow talked me into running a marathon with them a few years ago. I ran that first marathon in 2006, with plantar fasciitis in both feet and suffering from the flu. However, I finished, and did so running (at that point it was a combination of run/jog/walk) across the finish line. Obviously, I occasionally lack good, sound judgment. However, in this case I had gone too far and trained way too hard to give up without a fight. I am currently training for a few triathlons this fall, and hope to experience them pain and flu free. In January 2011, I received the job offer of my dreams. I now have the great pleasure of now helping build God's temples on the earth.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon, because it brings me the greatest joys in life to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. I'm a Mormon because the Spirit told me that Christ restored His church to the earth once again, and it is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm a Mormon because I believe that families can and should be together forever, and that sacred rite only occurs in God's holy temples. I'm a Mormon simply because God wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by humbly declaring to others what I have found out for myself to be true. I have the great pleasure of sharing the gospel and my testimony with friends and neighbors in my area and helping to bless their lives. I love to help people in need, especially without them asking for it. I love seeing the smile on their face and the gratitude in their eyes, when they receive a gesture of loving kindness. I live my faith by humbly following the teachings of Jesus Christ, and trying to be like Him. I live my faith by inviting others to come unto Christ and partake of the blessings He has promised us.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

As members of the LDS Church, we believe in the Word of Wisdom, which is the Lord's law of health. we believe this law of health was divinely inspired and is for our healthful benefit. We abstain from coffee, tea, alcohol, and other addictive and harmful substances to keep ourselves free from addictions and the other harmful effects that come from usage of these things. We believe our mortal bodies are a gift from God and should be treated with great respect and care. Personally, I feel that any thing that harms my body should not become part of my body. I strive to be free from anything addictive that would restrain my ability to be free and untethered from harmful substances. We also believe that since this is a divinely inspired law from God, we will be blessed by God for our obedience. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Faith is believing in things that you can not see, nor physically touch. Faith is feeling in your heart that what you are doing is right and is pleasing to God. Faith is taking a step forward in the dark not knowing exactly what lies ahead, but trusting that God does know and that He will provide for you as you strive to keep His commandments and do what is right.
