Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a mom, a piano teacher, a spelling fanatic, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm mom of three beautiful young children and I love basketball, reading and learning new things--yes, school! I have degrees in history and nursing. I work outside of the home occasionally as a nurse, but mostly choose to stay home with my little ones and teach a few piano lessons from my home.

Why I am a Mormon

Well, from first appearances it would seem I am Mormon because I grew up in Utah and my parents are Mormon and I was baptized at 8 years old (the earliest age possible) as a child. But, being baptized in a church as a child, and now choosing to live and claim my religion as a Mormon are two different things. I was taught as a child about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it's precepts. But it was as a teenager when I really began to study and explore the validity and reality of my knowledge and testimony of the Mormon church. I began scripture study and prayer to examine and understand if what I had been taught and was learning was true. I felt in my heart that it was. As my life has continued, I have since moved from my childhood home, gone to college, gone to graduate school, moved for a first job, all in different places in the U.S. Throughout this, I have been presented with new challenges as I have been the only Mormon in my classes in college or only Mormon in my neighborhood. I have had to deal with being separated or made fun of for my beliefs and differences. I have had to continually examine and redefine my testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Through doing so, my testimony of this truthfulness has grown. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know that I am doing what He would have me do. I know that Joseph Smith did have a vision and see God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. And because of this the Gospel of Jesus Christ that had been on the earth in Biblical times was restored. And because of this, I am a Mormon and I am sharing my testimony with you.

How I live my faith

I contribute to the Mormon church in my area by serving as a pianist in the Primary at church. The Primary is where children, age 3 to 12, meet for Sunday School and singing time during church. Music is such a powerful force--for good or bad--and I see it as a blessing to be able to bring good music to uplift others, especially children during church. In the past, I have served in different functions as the president of my local Mormon women's organization, or on a committee to plan activities, played the organ in my congregation, and served in the Nursery--taking care of children ranging from 18 months to 3 years old.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

President Thomas S. Monson is the president and prophet of the Mormon church. In addition, his two counselors, Henry B. Eyring and Dieter F. Uchtdorf and the Quorum of 12 Apostles direct the affairs of the church under his direction. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

No, it doesn't. But it does encourage its members to be active, positive, law-abiding, contributing citizens to the country in which they reside. Show more Show less
