Hi I'm Rachel

I grew up in California. I joined The Church when I was 19. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a stay at home home Mom to two beautiful children. My husband is in school finishing his degree and I'm getting ready to go back to school to get a teaching degree. I love doing many crafty things, like, sewing, re purposing things/furniture. I enjoy doing crafts with my children, we paint, play, read, make play dough and search for fun things in nature, just to name a few. Being college students, we live on a tight budget, but we have fun making it work. Right now, I'm focusing on learning skills to help make us more self sufficient. I'm learning how to can foods that our friends and family grow and I hope to have a successful garden this next spring/summer.

Why I am a Mormon

Throughout childhood I was bullied, I never felt safe or accepted at school. Until I came to High School and found the Drama and Stagecraft Program. It was run by a man and his wife, I was able to be myself and I realized my talents and potential. After high school I went to a College Theatre Program that helped train us for professional theatre. I soon realized that it wasn't the same kind of environment it was in High School. I found myself pushing through it and thinking "I can't wait to finish this". Nearing the end of the program, I made a friend. She was talking about going on a Mission. I asked her what she was talking about and she told me that she's Mormon. I kind of brushed it off and didn't really think about it. A few weeks later, I was in a situation where I felt lonely and did something I hadn't done in a long time, PRAY. I wasn't sure if anyone was listening but I prayed, I asked to know why I was here, where I was from and where I am going. I prayed that if there is a plan, that someone could sit down and show me. Later that day, when I got home, I felt compelled to search my bookshelf. I found a Book of Mormon I forgot I had, that missionaries has given me years before. I knew my answer was in there, but I didn't know where. The next day, I went to my friend and asked for her help, which she did. I started the missionary discussions and once a week I met with them. On the fourth week they taught me about the Plan of Salvation. Once I heard their words, I knew they had answered my prayers. A few weeks later I chose to be baptized. I am so grateful to be a part of The Church and that my prayers were answered and continue to be answered. I know that Heavenly Father loves everyone of us and that we are children of God. Through prayer, I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet who restored The Church for us. I am grateful that I was able to be married in The Temple and I know that our family can be together for all of eternity.

How I live my faith

I go to Church every Sunday. Once a month, another woman and I visit two wonderful ladies. We spend time talking to them and helping them in anyway we can. In past wards we have taught the youth. First, we started out teaching the 2-3 year olds. We have also taught the 4 year old class, the 5 year old class and the 9 year old class. I enjoy teaching the children, each age group is very different but fun in many ways. I have also been involved with humanities programs to help people not only in the U.S. but also throughout the world. Now, I am currently involved with Family History and discovering the people that created the family I have now. I also help others and through The Gospel, we can reunite these families so that they can be together forever too.
