Hi I'm Kate

I am a writer, a musician, a teacher of children with autism, & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy the arts, especially performance (musical theater, plays, etc). In high school I was a band geek. In college I turned into an English language nerd. I still love the history of the English language, and I still play the piano and flute, but now my main focus is on my students with Autism. I love teaching them and they teach me so much. I have a masters degree in Special Education-Severe Need, but the most learning I have received is with my students.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Both my parents converted to Mormonism, my mother from Catholicism and my father from Buddhism. Their dedication to and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the way they lived their lives to best emulate Christ's life, started me on my journey to conversion. It was in my teenage years that my own testimony grew, that I began to recognize the workings of the Lord in my life. As I put my faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, I began to see how I was blessed, even when things were not how I had planned. It is not always easy to align your will with Father's will, but it takes you to the place where you are the best person you can be. The gospel has the answers. I am a Mormon because I cannot find the answers anywhere else.

How I live my faith

I attend services every Sunday. I have had the opportunity to teach adult and children's Sunday School, to teach in the women's organization, and to use my musical abilities in playing the piano and organ for services. But Sundays are not the only days I live my faith. At home I read scriptures daily, I play and sing religious songs, I pray to Heavenly Father. When distance and time permits, I also attend one of the many Latter-day Saint Temples to worship and participate in ordinances there. All these things help me feel close to my Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, not just on Sunday, but everyday.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a record of prophets that lived on the American continent. These prophets and believers of the gospel had trials and triumphs, all while trusting in the Lord. They testified (bore record) of the Lord's dealings with them. The book spans the years from about 600 B.C. to about 400 A.D. There is also recorded in the Book of Mormon, the story of the visit of Jesus Christ to the Americas. Christ visited these ancient people after he was resurrected. He allowed them to touch the wounds on his body. He taught them the gospel. He blessed their children and the sick. The Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, witnesses that Christ came to Earth, that he suffered for our sins and trials, and that he was resurrected so that we all can be resurrected and live with Him and our Father in Heaven again..
