Hi I'm Kelsie

I'm an artist, a student, I love the outdoors and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student in a Visual Art Education program, but for 18 months I'm going to take a break to serve a mission. I have lived many places and learned to love all of them. In my free time I read a variety of different kinds of books, I spend time with my friends and the people I love, I dance and listen to music, and I spend as much time outdoors as I can.

Why I am a Mormon

I love this gospel and I know that it is true! When times get tough or when I have struggled I have always found the Lord there helping me on my way. When I look at our world and the many different lifestyles I am glad that I have a family that taught me about the gospel growing up because I find that God has all of the answers when we turn to him. I have attended meetings with other faiths and met good and wonderful people who serve God but only in this faith have I found the answers to all my questions, as well as rules and guidelines that help me find greater happiness and confidence in the Lord.

How I live my faith

I'm serving a mission for my church now, teaching others about Jesus Christ and the ways we can get closer to him, but when I'm at home I love to talk about the gospel and Jesus Christ with my friends. My friends and I go to church and activities together, have movie nights, and enjoy the gospel. I love my faith because its something I can take with me where ever I go and allows me to continue learning about anything I want. The things I beleive and know to be true bring me great joy in my life and hope for the future.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Kelsie
I love the bible and in our church we do study it and believe it to be the word of God. The Bible contains stories of prophets and Christ from the old world and helps us to see the many works of God as well as to learn of him. Unfortunately much of the important doctrine that may have once been in the Bible has been lost of confused over time leading to a lot of divisions in interpretation of this sacred book. I am thankful for the Book of Mormon that works as another testament of Jesus Christ and helps to clarify what may have been lost from the Bible over time. I am also thankful for the word of God through prophets today that helps to clarify and interpret the Bible and the Holy Ghost that allows me to know for myself what things are true. What is the priesthood?

Kelsie
The priesthood is the power of God to work on earth through those who are worthy to represent him. It blesses families and individuals. The priesthood is authority given from God through Jesus Christ to his apostles and is passed directly through the laying on of hands from one holder of the priesthood to another, something that has been done throughout the history of the gospel on the Earth. Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Kelsie
Women do not have the priesthood in our Church because God has given that responsibility to men. The priesthood gives them the responsibility to serve in their families and communities and it also is a means of setting members of the church aside for certain responsibilities in the church. Women in the Mormon faith are part of the Relief Society organization which also provides service and is under the direction of many women around the world who have been set aside for this task by members of the priesthood. We believe that our genders are a divine part of who we are. I am glad to be a woman of this faith. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Kelsie
Temples are sacred houses set aside for God. God, or Heavenly Father can only dwell in places that are clean from sin and the unholy things of this world. Those who enter into his house are required to make certain promises which are called covenants, or two way promises between that person and God. In our temples we learn more about God's plan for our happiness and are able to be in a place where the holy spirit can communicate with us more easily because it is a clean and quiet environment. Only those who live according to the promises that they have made or are about to make in the temple are able to enter in. People who have been in the temple do not talk about all the things that happen there out of respect to that sacred environment and the promises that have made with God. Show more Show less

What is the Church's position on abortion?

Kelsie
We hold all life to be sacred. God created all things for a reason and so life should not be put to an end abruptly at its beginning, this is against God's commandment not to kill. We have a responsibility to accept the consequences of the choices that we make include that of pregnancy, the ability to create children is one that is holy and sacred and should not be used lightly. While there are times when an abortion might be necessary for the health and safety of another life this is something that should only be done after careful consideration with the help of priesthood leaders, and much prayer. What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Kelsie
Mormon women are like many good women outside of the church. Men and women in our faith are expected to live according to certain moral rules and guidelines which help us draw closer to Christ and help us to have the Holy Ghost to dwell with us. Mormon women know that we are all God's children making them daughters of God. We believe that men and women are equal and have separate roles. Men bare the priesthood and are expected to be good husbands and fathers while women are expected to be good wives and mothers and have the divine opportunity to bring life into this world. Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

Kelsie
The Savior taught a lot about love for everyone and this has been an important teaching of his in my life. I know that God loves me and that he also loves every person who is, has, or will live on this Earth. Knowing of God's love for all of us, because we are all his children, helps me to treat others which more kindness and respect and I know that this helps my life have greater joy. Love is the greatest blessing in my life and the greatest thing that I can pass on to others. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Kelsie
We are called Mormons because of one of the books that we study out of, The Book of Mormon. Mormon was one of the Authors of this book that contains many lost doctrines as well as an additional testament of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Our faith is centered around Christ and because the Book of Mormon helps us learn about him and draw closer to him we study it and offer copies of it to those who wish to learn more about our faith. In the language from which the Book of Mormon was translated the name Mormon means "More Good" and so this is a compliment to our faith as we strive to live like Christ. Show more Show less
