Hi I'm Alan

I'm a young dad. I'm trying to find a career that is a fit for me. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm just a new husband. Life is still crazy, you know? I've got a lot of decisions to make still. What will I do for a career? How am I supposed to know how to support and raise a family? How can I find more time to go hiking? I love to be with my wife and our familes. I just want to have a family as good as the family I grew up in.

Why I am a Mormon

Mormonism for me just clicked. I've always had a pretty analytical mind. So when the time came to really make up my mind on how serious I was going to be about religion, I wanted to KNOW. That's what I love about prayer. God gives us a way to really know. We can ask God, and He promises to tell us (James 1:5). The answer came to me and has come to me a hundred times since. The hard part, you'll find is knowing how it comes. God didn't come to me and give me a letter or a neon sign, He just gave me a peaceful feeling and a really clear mind. You know when you are debating something in your mind and things just start spinning in your head. That's how I get sometimes when I think about religion, but when I would pray about all the stuff running through my head, it's like all the noise and interal arguements stopped. I would have really clear, distinct thoughts that are simultaneous to an awesome, peaceful feeling. You might just chalk that up to chance, but it has happened so many times that I had to go with it. And then you just have to start trying it out. You can't just ask questions, feel good about it,and then not do anything about it. So I started really putting myself into the church and living everything I could. For me, that is the answer to why I'm STILL a Mormon. I felt good about it when I would ask God, but there is no doubt now, I can SEE it in the way that I live my life, in the answers that I have to my questions about raising a family, for the way that living the gospel has gotten me more prepared and closer to God than I ever could have got on my own ideas, or the ideas of some other man. I tried the fruit like Christ says in Matthew, and it was GOOD!

How I live my faith

I love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because it gives people like me a lot to do. I get to visit with a few families in our ward every month--just to say hi, let them know that somebody cares and is concerned about them. The church always gives you chances to serve other people--as a kid I hated it, but it grows on ya.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

What I love about Mormons is that we are real people. You probably have Mormon neighbors and co-workers and you wouldn't even know it. We celebrate every major holiday that I can think of. Christmas and Easter are especially important to us because they give us a special chance to think about the birth and Resurrection of the Savior Jesus Christ. When I go to church I try to wear the best thing I have. Most of us wear guys wear shirts and ties and the women wear skirts or dresses. But there isn't a dress code. We come looking our best because we are going to worship the Savior and if that isn't a good excuse to look your best then I don't know what is! Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

As a Mormon all my life, I say with confidence YES. I believe that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior. He came to earth as the Son of God and lived a perfect life. He died on the cross and lived again. The Christ of the New Testament is the same that we as Mormons worship as Immanuel (God with us). Show more Show less
