Hi I'm Matt

I love my family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the middle child of 9 children. I have 3 older and 3 younger brothers and 1 older and 1 younger sister. If you are keeping track that would make me the symmetrical middle. I am the stereotypical Mormon. My dad teaches seminary, my mom is a homemaker and I have had a lot of casserole in my life. Growing up surrounded by other members of the church it sometimes seems like I am just another scoop of vanilla ice cream, but the truth is despite our commonalities in faith, our lives couldn't be more different. I am a people person. I love making people laugh. I love sports, particularly soccer. I played goalie all through high school. I had the unique opportunity to serve as missionary to the people of Portugal and the people on the islands of Cape Verde Africa. I am married to my best friend, the love of my life and together we have 1 girl and 1 boy. Our children bring us more joy than I thought possible. They (mostly my son) have also proved that there is no such thing as "baby-proofing" your home. Despite the chaos we have so much fun and enjoy the little things of life. It's amazing what children can teach you.

Why I am a Mormon

To an outsider it may seem obvious why I'm a Mormon - I had no choice....or so it may seem. The interesting thing about the gospel of Jesus Christ and this whole experience called mortality is that it all based on the principle of agency. My family always read scriptures and prayed together and I was taught the doctrine of the LDS faith, but my testimony was something that developed on it's own. Before leaving to serve a mission I had to know for myself that this was in fact the Church of Jesus Christ. I prayed to seek an answer for myself and I received a feeling that I will never forget and I knew that I could not deny. Jesus Christ is the head of this church and Joseph Smith was his prophet.

How I live my faith

I didn't completely follow in my dad's footsteps, but I sure do love to teach. I am lucky enough to teach Sunday school. I love trying to explain the gospel to my peers and help people develop their own convictions. The principles of the gospel are so powerful because when they are truly understood they inevitably lead to change. I love being a part of changing people's lives for the better, including my own.

Are Mormons Christians?

Matt
I went online to webster.com to check out what they defined as Christian. This is what I found, "One who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ." Seems simple enough to me. Using that as the definition I can tell you without reservation that "Mormons" or more accurately stated, members of the Church of JESUS CHRIST, are definitely Christian. Show more Show less
