Hi I'm Josh

I grew up in Boise, ID. I went on a mission to São Paulo, Brazil. I am a student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 25 year old Public Health student, and I hope to enter medical school next fall. I enjoy being an active member of a Christian fraternity on campus and getting to know people that are different from me and learn about their beliefs. I love to mountain bike and be outside, especially up in the mountains. I enjoy driving and working on cars and well as taking road trips with my latest audiobook. In my free time, I like to read car magazines, watch movies and shoot shotguns. After living in São Paulo as a missionary, I try to keep up with the news and my Portuguese by reading Brazilian news sites.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a Mormon, was baptized at the age of 8, and went to church every Sunday. I think I've always known that the Church was true to a certain extent, but as a teenager as I read the Book of Mormon and actively participated in service, and through faithfully praying daily, over time I felt in my soul that I had a Heavenly Father and that His son is Jesus Christ, my Savior. When I turned 18, I began the paperwork to serve a mission, and at 19 I left for Brazil. The experiences that I had and the people that I worked with helped me gain a stronger testimony as I saw the Gospel become a major part in people's lives as they changed. There were times that I wondered if it all was true, but as I exercised faith through prayer and scripture study, my prayers were answered. Since being home, I have had my times of weakness, times where I have doubted, and times where I have needed to repent. But as I have continued to go to the Lord, I have felt forgiveness and love more than I have before, and known stronger than during my mission or at any other time in my life that what I believe is true. I know that there is a God in heaven, that He loves me and all of His children. I know His son is Jesus Christ who paid for my sins so that I can be clean and return to live with Him again. I know that through the prophet Joseph Smith, the priesthood, the power and authority to baptize and make eternal our familial relationships here in mortality, was restored. The same priesthood Jesus gave to His apostles during His ministry is with us on the Earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I have received personal revelation about things I need to do as I have read it. I also know that there are living prophets and apostles who communicate with Heavenly Father and guide us in our lives.

How I live my faith

I am the first counselor in the Sunday School presidency and teach Gospel Principles in my single adult ward. I enjoy revisiting and teaching about the basic and important doctrines of the Church to those wanting to learn and understand more about what Mormons believe. My favorite part of teaching, is not only getting to pass on what I know, but learning more as others have questions and share their understanding with me.
