Hi I'm Jarrett

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello! Who am I? Well like most people I have many roles. I am a Stepmother of two great kids (well they are pretty close to grown now). This is a very important role for me, because my goal in life has always been to be a Mother, these two kids have welcomed me into their lives and I am grateful for that. I am a teacher. I teach History and Cultural Anthropology at our local Community College. I love my job. Everyday I get watch others learn while learning myself. I am a daughter and a sister. My family has always been important to me and we are very close. While I am the only Church member in my family, we are still close and enjoy each other. I am a wife. I waited a while for this - I was just short of 37 when I married my wonderful husband. Oh, he was so worth the wait. When I am not doing all the things associated with the above, I love to read. Reading is truly a wonderful escape for me. I don't get to do it often enough, but when I do I really appreciate it. Anyway - that is a little of who I am. Nice to meet you.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? That is a good question. Certainly, I never saw myself becoming Mormon - it certainly didn't fit into my lifestyle. But I read the Book of Mormon - it is a fantastic story - that is what I thought the first couple of months I was reading it. Then as time went on that feeling change - I began to see the book as amazing, but not as a story. When I was done reading it my husband asked if I wanted to pray to see if the Book was true, I said "no". No, I didn't want to hear the answer, I already knew it was true - but oh my this was going to change my life. Change my life it did. I was scared, how would I be able to do this, what would my friends think. I did have to make some changes in my life, but all the things that mattered stayed. Every change I made was more than worth it. I am continually blessed in my life from the knowledge of the love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have for me.

How I live my faith

By praying for help to be a positive and loving influence in all aspects of my life. I am grateful how the Lord has helped me in this.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Jarrett
Absolutely, and thank goodness. I love to read all the scriptures, and I believe that I can learn how to be a better person from them all. But it is so comforting to know that Heavenly Father has given us a prophet to lead us today. While yes they say history repeats itself, we still always have to deal with our challenges in a new and unique way - our prophet today can help guide us through these. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Jarrett
You can find out the same way I did - that is read the Book of Mormon. While I avoided praying about it, I knew by the time I was finished it was true. I know that if you read the Book of Mormon with an open mind and heart and then pray with a true desire to know if it is true you will too get an answer. I know what the answer will be, I hope you will read it and find out for yourself. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Jarrett
Because Heavenly Father is a loving Father. His true hope is that we will all return to him. We have to make that choice though. Not all have the opportunity to make that choice here on the earth. Of course our Father in Heaven will give us another opportunity to make the choice to be with him. We do baptisms for the dead to give them that opportunity. We do the work here, because they cannot do it without a body, BUT it is still their choice. They can accept the baptism or not. No one is force to be baptized and follow Jesus Christ.
