Hi I'm Chris

I'm a high school math teacher. I live in the Mississippi Delta. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated from college with a bachelors and masters degree in accounting. I decided to take a different career path and decided to join a program called Teach For America. I am now teaching under privileged kids in the Mississippi Delta. While teaching I have been helping to coach the basketball team at my high school. Basketball is a passion of mine and it's a joy to be able to share it with my students. I love to read, watch movies, exercise, and spend time with my family. Everyday is an adventure and I'm loving it!

Why I am a Mormon

My family's heritage dates back to the pioneer era on both my mothers and fathers line. I was born into the Church, but like all members I had to gain my own testimony to know that it is true. The truth came to me as I listened to Gospel lessons, read the scriptures, kept the commandments, and prayed for a witness. The more I learned, the more peace I felt, and the more I felt a deep and abiding commitment to follow The Savior. My faith in his Atonement increased and over time I was changed into the person he wants me to be.

How I live my faith

Every Sunday I cross the beautiful Mississippi River to attend my church meetings. I currently am a gospel instructor and ward emergency preparedness specialist. I enjoy my duties and love serving in the Church. Since I am the only active male member of the Church in the town that I live, I have the responsibility of visiting many other members and inviting them back to Church. This at times has proven to be a bit overwhelming but with the help of the Lord we have been able to experience some success. One of the most important elements of living my faith is sharing with others. I never try to pry my religion onto others but when I feel impressed to share something from the Gospel that I think might help another I always do. I love to be able to share the joy the Gospel brings into my life and feel even more joy when I see it help other people.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Mormons do not practice polygamy. While the Lord at times commanded that his people practice plural marriage, he does not require it of His people today. Infact the practice of polygamy and its teachings were abandoned by Church leaders and members over a hundred years ago. They did so by commandment from The Lord. Anyone who practices polygamy today is not a member of The Church. Show more Show less
