Hi I'm Jan

I grew up dreaming of having a horse ranch in Wyoming. Ended up with a bison ranch there, instead. Best thing we raised? Our kids!

About Me

I'm a happy wife and mom of seven and grandma of seventeen. I'm a retired business owner -- I sold buffalo jerky. We raised buffalo on our ranch until a few years ago but the time was right and we sold the last one in November of 2009. My husband and I are empty nesters all the way around now! Now I'm spending a lot of time keeping up with the grandkids, traveling, gardening, doing genealogy, reading my Kindle and serving where I'm needed. Life is good!

Why I am a Mormon

I had been active in the faith that I grew up in all my life. But things started to change when I was about thirteen. My grandmother died and I thought she was gone forever. I didn't think I'd ever see her again. I asked Dad to please take me to see our priest so I could ask questions. He did. But it seemed that every question I asked was answered, "It's a mystery of faith." That didn't satisfy a young girl's searching heart. My teenage years were spent trying to figure out who I was and where I belonged. Mom and Dad were good people, but both struggled with alcoholism and our family life was going down the drain as a result. When I turned eighteen, I thought, "I can be just like my parents or I can choose a different way." That was when life began to change for the better! I was friends with some LDS (Mormon) kids at school. They were happy and I liked how they could have fun and just drink milk! One day I passed by one of my friend's desks in class. There on the top of his desk was a Book of Mormon. I said, "Wouldn't it be funny if I joined your church?" He invited me to church that Sunday. I remember walking into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that first Sunday. I felt the most incredible feeling of love that I had ever felt. I began learning about the LDS church through missionary discussions. I had questions...lots of them. But they had answers! Finally, I found the answers. That was 35 years ago. EVERY good thing in my life has come through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is my Savior and Redeemer. EVERY good thing in my life has come from living the doctrines and principles taught in His restored church. EVERY good thing in my life came from the simple decision to ask. Are you searching for answers? I know that you have come to the right place. Please ask.

How I live my faith

A really cool opportunity that I've recently had is to appear as an extra in the new LDS film production of the New Testament. That's one of the things I love about being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I get to grow in so many ways! No matter what our talents are (even if you don't think you have any talents) the Lord gives us opportunities to grow! I love having opportunities to serve as the Savior did. It helps me feel closer to Him. Right now I'm the Ward Chorister. I lead the music in Sacrament meeting. I also am the Ward Choir Director. I'm not a great musician or anything, but I do love to worship the Lord through music and the Lord helps me in my calling. I also serve as a Visiting Teacher. I visit 4 women in our ward at least once each month with my Visiting Teaching partner. We work to make sure the women we visit are doing okay both spiritually and temporally. I appreciate the women that Visiting Teach me too. It is nice to have a support system wherever I am. And I love doing genealogical research! I know that part of Heavenly Father's plan is that our family can be forever and so it is so important to know that family. The more I find out about my family, the more I find out about me. I've said it before and I'll say it again...EVERY good thing in my life is a result of my decision to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
