Hi I'm Spencer Alexander Thayne

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love life. I just got back from being in the Philippines for two years as a missionary. Right now I am going to college with a major of graphic design. I have always loved to create and design. I like to go hiking, biking, four-wheeling, rock climbing and pretty much anything outdoors! I love life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and my bloodline traces back to the restoration of the church of Jesus Christ. Growing up in the church, yet being surrounded by a world with decaying values, showed me the benefits of being a "mormon". At the time I didn't understand why we were different, I just knew I was glad to have principles in my home that made me feel happy and secure. At the end of my senior year in high school I decided I would serve a mission for the church. I felt it was my duty and so I made no second thought. At least not until my papers were being submitted and I started thinking. I thought about prophets and how they can testify to the world they know things are true because they really do know, not just believe. After realizing I would need to have that same job as the prophets, to testify of truth, I began to feel inadequate and unprepared. So I did the only thing I could think to do. I knelt and told my Heavenly Father how I was feeling. I told him I believed it was true and I was going to serve no matter what but that I felt inadequate. I asked that I could gain a stronger testimony so that I could powerfully testify, like the prophets, that I know it is true. That testimony did come in ways I never could have imagined. The spirit bore witness to me at different times about different things so powerfully that I really can now say, I know it is true.

How I live my faith

Living the faith is what being a member is. It is a way of life and the reason I believe so strongly that it should be is because of the power I have felt and seen when I have taken the small, daily steps that keep me strong. It is in daily scripture reading, prayer, writing in a journal, and looking for ways to help others. It is through weekly going to the temple, church attendance and always working my hardest. Through these things I gain strength, happiness and a closeness to my Savior. And the great thing is these things are not just for Mormons but for everyone. I often imagine what the world would be like if we all had such simple, faith-filled actions in our daily routine, regardless of what our religion is. I know that Christ would have us love one another and be unified and I know the only way that could ever happen would be through us living like him.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Spencer Alexander Thayne
It might be misconstrued that mormons do not at all believe in grace. This is not true. We believe grace is very important and needed by everyone. However, grace cannot come alone; we believe that we must first do as much as we can to do good works and come unto the Lord Jesus Christ and after we have done everything we can possibly do as a human being, then the grace of Jesus Christ is sufficient to purify our imperfections.
