Hi I'm Bryan

A musician and songwriter at heart, I am a software quality professional by day. I'm also a Mormon.

About Me

I've recently started a career in software development and testing, but all my life I have been an avid musician. Starting with piano at age 7 and then moving on to the clarinet, organ, guitar, ukulele and even carillon (bell tower), I try out any instrument I can get my hands on. I also enjoy spending my free time learning more about technology in general, how computer systems and software work. I've taken up computer building and PC video games as another hobby along with my love of technology as well. Beyond that I find pleasure in a quiet evening of reading, writing or simple exercise.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this religion, but that doesn't mean that I had to stick with it. I'll be the first to admit that being a Mormon isn't exactly "easy" by most standards. Surprisingly though I don't really find it to be at all a challenge; there are some things that I simply don't do just because I know that I'm better off for it, even if it's just a prophet's word against my own feelings at times. Given the current climate of society I get the feeling that plenty of people feel like it's unnecessary to have standards like mine. I don't drink, smoke, have illicit relationships or even drink coffee or watch R rated movies because of my religion. While it may seem restrictive to some, I really do find peace from not having the added stress that is the inevitable side effect from any of these behaviors. In the end though it's not that peace that keeps me Mormon; it's the deep rooted knowledge that not only is this Church a good thing in the world, it is God's church. Throughout my life I have had experiences that have cemented in my mind this fact; prophets just like Moses or Abraham do exist today in this church, and it truly is the Church of Jesus Christ for our times, a.k.a. of Latter-Day Saints. There is nothing more powerful than this truth, and I know that if people will just open their hearts enough to pray about it and ask God if it is true, he will let them know just like he has me.

How I live my faith

I'm serving in the church constantly; not only every Sunday but throughout the week I'm attending institute (scripture study classes) or family home evening (monday night family study). I participate actively in the priesthood by visiting a half dozen of the members of our ward monthly as part of what we call the home teaching program. I have a goal currently to get to the temple to serve there at least once a month as well. I fit this all in alongside my project-driven work schedule and dating a wonderful girl I met at my institute classes. Life never really seems to slow down, and I am constantly learning how much work it takes to keep myself in balance. The most important thing to me that keeps me going is the fact that I know everything always does work out for those that love the Lord, and I know he watches over me. I'm so thankful for the faith that keeps me strong.
