Hi I'm Shawna

I'm a Mormon. Being LDS is the greatest thing that could've ever happened to me.

About Me

I am a college student living in Canada. After a lot of wrong decisions about post secondary school, I found myself following my passions and taking Culinary Arts. Everyone expected me to go to university, but it never seemed like the right fit. School brings me so much joy.

Why I am a Mormon

Well I am one of the lucky people who were born into this gospel. My father is a convert to this church and so my parents always encouraged finding a testimony for myself. During my teenage years I studied and read about many religions, and even visited different congregations. I can honestly say that no other church is like ours. Nowhere else, and trust me when I say I looked hard, gave me the happiness, the friendship and the knowledge that what I was participating in was the true gospel. While reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible, I am reconverted on a daily basis. I know that this church is true. As unbelievable, and sometimes difficult as it is, this is where you should be. To anyone reading this, I hope you are able to put aside anything that may be holding you back from joining our church. We ask a lot of our members, but the rewards are eternal and will change your life. I consider everyone in this church to be my family, and we treat each other that way. I always say when I go to church that I get to see my 200 best friends today and I really mean it. This church is true and has made my life complete.

How I live my faith

In my ward, I act as our housing coordinator and welfare specialist. This position has truly taught me the beauty of this church. We truly care and take care of one another. This position is to provide help if there is a need in the ward and help the ward become prepared for disasters in our area. My current goal is 72 hour kits because our church emphasizes being prepared. I love the work I get to do in this gospel.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

I came to a sure knowledge by study and by prayer. This seems almost too simple but I would encourage you to read the Book of Mormon. In the front of every book is the testimonies of men who saw the plates these words were engraved on. These men speak powerfully of the things they saw. By reading the Book of Mormon and praying to know if it's true, you can know if what we believe is true. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost is the third member of the godhead, working with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost is our way of knowing what is right and wrong. People sometimes just know things are going to happen before they do, or get a bad feeling in a certain situation. This is the Holy Spirit. As members of the church we have this presence always. In my life, I have been able to avoid bad situations, choose good friends and I'm sure been saved from pain and misery. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

I suppose the real question is do you believe God loves his children any less now than in the beginning of time? Our Heavenly Father loves us so much and he knows that our world in which we live is complicated and difficult and that sin is very tempting. The lines between good and evil are more difficult to see. Arguably now more than ever we need a prophet on the earth. The prophet and apostles act as messengers from God to guide us in our lives. Their words are incredibly important and can guide us for our day and circumstances. I know that President Monson is a true prophet and is on this earth to lead and direct us in a difficult world.
