Hi I'm Gary Warburton

Thank you for taking a moment to look at my profile. This is a great site. You will find good things here. God bless you.

About Me

I am a husband and a father. we have five children. My oldest is 19 and is serving as a missionary in Argentina and my youngest is nine. I work for a Bank and my wife stays home with our children.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Mormon Church when I was 19 years old. I felt that something was missing in my life. I had lost some of the peace and happiness that I had as a small child. I was not involved in organized religion but I did believe that there was a God and I had always felt a respect for Jesus Christ. One night, I was pondering what I could do to find the right direction in my life; I knelt down and prayed to God. I had not prayed in years. My prayer was short but sincere, "Dear God, I want to live a better life. I would like to find the peace and happiness I had as a small child. Would you please show me what I should do to find that again", I then went to bed. When I woke up the first thought that entered my mind was, "you should join a Church". It was as if someone spoke that to me, it was not my own thought. Later that day two Mormon Missionaries knocked on my door and asked if they could share a message with me. The words of that morning and my prayer of the previous night came to mind so I let them in. They shared a message with me that God still loves us and that He has called Prophets again to guide and teach us. They also told me of additional scripture, The Book of Mormon, which had been brought forth as a second witness of the divinity of Jesus Christ. Their message rang true to me and I continued to learn with the missionaries and I read the Book of Mormon. Through this process I gained a spiritual witness that God’s kingdom is again on earth and that He has called Prophets to guide us. I gained a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true scripture and is a witness (with the Bible) that Jesus Christ is our Savior. This was the greatest turning point of my life. I regained the peace and happiness that was missing. Please look for yourself. I guarantee that you will be blessed as I have been.

How I live my faith

I try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ by treating people with kindness and respect. My wife and I work with the youth programs in our local congregation. We also volunteer at service projects when we can. Recently our youth helped out at a small school for children with special needs. We spent the morning helping with yard work and painting one of the new classrooms. There were close to 50 volunteers. The people who owned the school were very grateful and our children that were able help out with us. We had fun serving.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Gary Warburton
I think it is because we are different from many of the Christian religions in that we believe in a living Prophet and additional scripture to the Bible (ex. the Book of Mormon). I feel strongly that we are not a cult but sometimes are labeled as such by people who are misinformed or sometimes intentionally misleading. Show more Show less

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

Gary Warburton
We believe that Baptism is an essential ordinance of our salvation that all accountable people must receive. We believe that little children less that eight years old and those who are mentally handicapped do not need to be baptized because that are not yet accountable for their sins. We also believe that God has prepared a way so that those who never had a chance to be baptized or never heard of Christianity will have a chance to receive this essential ordinance. This work is done in Mormon Temples. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Gary Warburton
We believe that God Chooses the next Prophet through revelation to his Apostles. Our Church is set up like the original Church of Jesus Christ. It is led by a Prophet and Apostles. When the current Prophet dies, the remaining Apostles fast, pray and receive a unanimous revelation on which Apostle becomes the new Prophet. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Gary Warburton
I believe fully in the Atonement of Jesus Christ but I must also say that I don't fully comprehend it. I know that out of his great love for all of us that somehow he was able to step in and take on him all of my sins and misdeeds and the Sins of all the people on earth. Somehow he was able to bear the incredible weight of all of those sins and then as a God (he was the Son of God, he was not a mere mortal) was able to voluntarily sacrifice his life so that we would not have to be forever banished from God and Heaven. What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

Gary Warburton
After we die, our spirits go to a place we refer to as the spirit world to await the resurrection and final judgment. We believe that there is a division in the spirit world. For those who have lived good lives and followed the teachings of Jesus Christ this will be place of rest and happiness. For those who have chosen to live wickedly it will be a place of inner torment and regret for having been hurtful to others or overly selfish in their lives. We also believe that there will be continued teaching of Jesus Christ's plan of salvation that goes on in the spirit world. Show more Show less

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Gary Warburton
We believe that this life has a purpose and that each of us is a spirit son or daughter of God. We believe that we lived with him before we were born. We believe that we must be perfect to return to live with God. However, none of us are perfect. We all have fallen short of that. So none of us can return to God on our own. However, God had a plan and it included a Savior. Someone that could redeem us from our sins and shortcomings. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He is that "Someone" that could redeem us. We believe he paid the price of our sins and that we can we can be redeemed and return to live with God. We believe that through faith in Jesus Christ, repentance and baptism we can one day return to live with God. Show more Show less
