Hi I'm Maurine

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Maurine and I'm a college student. As part of my education, I had an opportunity to study in Jerusalem. I loved walking the paths the Savior walked, and studying his life. The experience brought the scriptures to life for me in a way I never thought was possible! I also had the opportunity to interact with people of both cultures there. As I listened to their stories, I came to love both groups. I hope to take away from this experience better understanding of different people and an increased appreciation for the life I have been blessed with. One of the hardest trials I've been through occurred when my mother was diagnosed with late stage breast cancer. It was one of the hardest trials I've ever been through, but I know we didn't do it go through it alone. Every step of the way we were blessed and supported by members from church, by the priesthood, and especially by the Savior. My survived and is doing great! The experience taught me that even in our darkest, most scary moments, we are not alone. The power of the atonement can help us overcome all trials. I know my Savior is aware of me as an individual.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that this gospel of hope is true. I know I have a Savior is knows me as an individual, and that while the atonement was an infinite things, it was also individual one. I know that any trials, pains, sins, or fears I have, my Savior understands and can help me overcome them. I know that President Monson is a true prophet. As I strive to listen to his teachings, I feel closer to my Savior. I know hes is the mouth piece of our Lord. I also have a firm testimony of the Book of Mormon. I know its teachings and testimonies within it are true. I also know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. I'm grateful he had the faith to go into a grove a trees and pray and ask God which church was true. I know he was answered! I know this church is truly the Church of Jesus Christ! Things change a lot in life, but my testimony is one constant thing that helps provide strength to press forward. It has helped me realize that sometimes the hardest trials are the best blessings in life because they provide us an opportunity to draw closer to the Savior. Trials can provide an opportunity to take a more eternal perspective and realize what is really important. I love looking back after a trial and seeing how we were blessed and protected throughout it. The knowledge that the Lord knows who I am and that I can develop a personal relationship with him is one of the best blessings in my life!

How I live my faith

I'm a Sunday School teacher in my singles ward. I teach a class of about 40 people. You can get a lot of great interaction with a class of that size, but I always get really nervous before presenting to a group that size! I work really hard the week before trying to prepare the lesson. I pour over the scriptures, and I love how the life of our Savior and his followers come to life! I know the people we study in the scriptures are real people with real testimonies of the gospel! Its fun taking those stories bringing them to life, and then trying to help others apply those stories and lessons to their own life! I love once the lesson starts, and the class gets involved, that all sorts of new insights into the story are uncovered that never occurred to me during my study. I learn so much from my class and from the spirit felt in that class! I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve in my ward!

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I love that as you study the scriptures, the stories can come to life! Individuals like Moses, Peter, Ruth, Nephi, and others can come to life as you study the pages. The more I study the scriptures, I realize that these individuals had strengths and weaknesses, but above all, they had a desire to serve the Lord! They lived in a different time and culture, but the decisions they faced were ultimately the same ones we make: choosing the way of our Savior or the way of the world. There stories remind us the only way to true joy is by following Christ. Every time I read the scriptures, even if I'm reading a verse I've read a 100 times before, I discover new things. I see new ways to apply the teachings of the scriptures to my lives. I also find, that when I spend time to study the scriptures, I more fully enjoy the presence of the Holy Ghost. When I have a tough decision to make or a question about something, I know that between the answers specifically stated in the scriptures or the feelings and promptings I receive from the Holy Ghost as I study the scriptures, I can find the answers and comfort I need to make the right decision.
