Hi I'm Jennifer

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a homeschooling mom with six young children and a wonderful husband who makes computer games. I love being able to share my love of learning with my children. I enjoy gardening, and can't let a summer go by without at least a few vegetables in my little backyard. I am artistic and love creative endeavors, though I have little time for them at this stage of life. I speak French and ASL and I really enjoy finding solutions to real-life puzzles. I also really appreciate conversations about things that are real and meaningful.

Why I am a Mormon

I have spent a lot of time studying various religions and have learned many good things, but I have never seen anything as amazing as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love that we are responsible to seek answers to our own questions through thought and prayer and study. Though it can be really hard sometimes and every now and then I wish that someone would just give me the right answer and save me the effort of finding it for myself, I see how much I grow from that effort. We are never asked to just believe what we are told, but are always reminded that it is our responsibility to ask God to confirm the truth of all things. I love the youth programs of this church. I grew up in the deep south and saw the troubles that many of my friends experienced. I was able to hold on through those difficult years because I knew that I was a daughter of God and I understood what he expected of me and why it was so important. I love that this church embraces all of the truths that Heavenly Father has revealed to mankind. I know that it is led by a prophet of God and that all of the scriptures that God has given us are true. It is exciting to see Biblical prophesies fulfilled in the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. I love the protection and safety that comes from following the counsel of a living prophet who is able to speak to the specific needs of our time. I sincerely believe that anyone who looks honestly at the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will see the profound truth and beauty of the doctrines. If you ask Heavenly Father in faith if they are true, He will let you know that this is indeed His church.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to assist with work in the church. Though I am naturally very timid, I have accepted assignments to teach children, as well as women my own age and even occasionally to address the entire congregation. It is still not easy for me, but I am so much more comfortable now speaking in public settings. I have also had many leadership opportunities. I have seen how every member of this church truly wants to help and serve to the best of their abilities. I have also had opportunities to see how hard it can be to do. Such training has made me much more patient both with those who I try to assist with their particular responsibilities and with those who help me with mine. Though we are not perfect, we are all learning to truly love and support each other and to work together to serve those around us. I love our prophets counsel to sincerely love and respect those of other faiths and I try to follow his example. We are encouraged to seek true answers to things we don't understand and I believe that includes other faiths as well. I enjoy learning about others' beliefs and try to take the opportunities that I have to understand them better. I also love the opportunities that I have to serve other people. I can't even keep track of how much this church does to serve people everywhere and I am grateful that I can be a part of it. In a couple of days is the church Christmas dinner that my husband and I were asked to coordinate. I am grateful for the opportunity this gives me to meet people in my new area (my family recently moved) and help people in a meaningful way. Experiences like this also make me so much more appreciative of the times that other people work hard to serve me!
