Hi I'm Melanie

I love to teach and learn. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I live in Southern California with our 4 children. Our oldest son is married and I recently became a grandma! I love babies, chocolate, taking walks, sunsets at the beach, telling stories, Christmas music, home education, lilacs, pedicures, Shakespeare, coconut and reading/studying the best books!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love my Savior Jesus Christ! He has redeemed my soul and saved me from bondage. My parents taught me about Jesus Christ and raised me in the gospel. On my mother's side, my ancestors joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the 1800s. My father is the first convert in his family. As an adult, I have chosen to remain a faithful member of God's church because I want to show my love for Him. I feel peace and happiness when I pray and study the scriptures. I attend church every Sunday because it strengthens my testimony of God and inspires me to be a better person. It also gives me and my family the opportunity to learn from and grow along with wonderful, faithful people in my community. I am grateful to belong to a church that believes in revelation and is led by a living prophet. I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

My favorite way to show my love for others is though service. At church each week I work with the children ages 18 months to 11 years old. They have small classes with other children their age. They are taught by wonderful teachers, but then I get to meet with them in larger groups to tell them stories and help them learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ. The faith of these young children is amazing to me. They seem to recognize truth quickly and have a strong desire to learn more. They love to sing songs praising our Savior and they want to choose the right. It is a joy to be with these beautiful children every Sunday!

What do Mormons believe about “eternal life?”

We believe that this earthly life is not the end. We believe that because of our Savior Jesus Christ, we will all live eternally in heaven. My mother recently passed away quite suddenly. Our family is very sad and we miss her dearly, but we are comforted by the knowledge that we will be together again one day. We look forward to that day with peace and joy. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

The Law of Chastity is God's command to keep ourselves pure in thought, word and behavior. Specifically, it means that sexual relations are sacred and shared only between husband and wife. The Law of Chastity has blessed my life immensely. When this law is broken the results can be painful--unwanted pregnancy, disease, divorce, betrayal and sadness. When the law is kept the blessings are fidelity, peace, trust and strong marriage and family. Show more Show less

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

I believe that modesty promotes chastity. My husband and I have tried to teach our children about chastity from the time they were very young. When we go shopping, we help them choose clothing that covers their bodies and doesn't fit too tightly. As they grow up, it is easier to continue dressing modestly. They are used to it and they understand that their body is a temple--a gift from God. We try to set an example ourselves by dressing and speaking modestly. We try not to watch tv or movies with immodest or unchaste behavior. If we do see this, we use it as a teaching moment. My teenagers have learned to choose music and entertainment that is modest. This helps them to remain chaste in today's world. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon tells the story of God's dealings with people who lived in the Americas anciently. It testifies of Jesus Christ and of His visit to these people. Many of the prophets and leaders who wrote the accounts contained in the Book of Mormon knew that their records were being saved for people who would live much later. We are those people! The Book of Mormon is a blessing to people today because it tells of many problems we deal with today--wars, corrupt leaders, crime, political unrest, racial tension and dysfunctional families. Fortunately, the Book of Mormon also shows that when we follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and obey His commandments, we can overcome problems and find peace and joy! Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Sometimes we are tempted to think that pornography is not a big deal or that it won't have an impact on our family. Unfortunately, pornography is so pervasive that its influence will effect all of us. We need to understand the addictive nature and destructive power of pornography. Then we need to teach our children to shun it from a young age. The average age that children first view pornography is age 11. That means that many children are exposed at very young ages! Every computer in our home must have a filter on it. You can download one for free at http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ We must be sure that our choices in entertainment are wholesome and do not arouse sexual feelings or desires. As wives and mothers we can be examples of virtue and protect the sacredness of marital intimacy. We must teach our children these principles consistently, and seek to fill our homes and communities with goodness and light. We cannot ignore the evil of pornography. If we discover that a loved one is struggling with pornography, we can encourage them to seek spiritual and professional help. God loves his children and wants them to be free from the bondage of pornography. 12-step support groups can be of great help in overcoming sexual addictions. I recommend the book He Restoreth My Soul by Donald L. Hilton and the website http://combatingpornography.org Show more Show less
