Hi I'm Ken

About Me

I have been a web developer since 2002. My wife and two young boys live in Utah. I grew up in Arizona and went on a mission to Seoul, South Korea from 1998-2000. My wife is from rural Colorado. We have no family in Utah but love the people and the Mountains and have made it our home.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of Christ's church gives me so much clarity and direction in my life. I love to learn about the Savior and His life and teachings. It gives me strengths against the temptations and evils I face everyday. Christ's teachings help me keep a broad perspective on life, knowing that I had a rich pre-mortal life and that "mansions have been prepared" for me in the next life. Knowing that I am a divine being, an actual sprit child of my Heavenly Father, guides my daily choices and shapes my eternal goals.

How I live my faith

I work as a clerk for my local Church unit. It basically means that I get to spend a lot of time with the men and women leaders of the congregation. It is amazing to see their love for all the members and their desire to give freely of their time to help anyone they can.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

In the pre-mortal life we lived with God, our Heavenly Father. We will find the most joy in the next life if we are worthy to live with God again. But we have all made bad choices in this life. God cannot allow imperfection before Himself. So our Savior Jesus Christ bore the punishment for our sins and imperfections. If we accept Christ as our Savior, we can live with God again. Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

In America, we celebrate all the usual holidays. However, I try to find more meaning in Christmas and Easter because those represent the birth and resurrection of my Savior. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending a Mormon Church and a Mormon Temple?

In the Temple we make special promises of chastity, service and charity. Temples also provide a means for those in the next life to accept Christ and enjoy the blessings of baptism and of making those special promises. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe that God is a person with a body of flesh and bones as we have. We believe that Christ's title "Son of Man" in the New Testament means that his Father is a Man with a capital M--a Man that has reached his full potential. God is all powerful, all knowing and the perfect Father. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

The next life is much of a continuation of this life. I like my family and don't think it makes sense that the next life would be some radically different society where everyone lived separately. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

When Christ lived on the Earth He chose 12 apostles and gave them the authority to preach in His name and gave them the power to heal and bless others. The priesthood is that power. We believe that the ancient apostles Peter, James and John appeared to Joseph Smith and gave him that power also. The priesthood must be conferred from one worthy person to another. Those who hold the priesthood today received it from men who received it from other men and you can trace the line back to that visitation from Peter, James and John. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in “eternal life?”

It is such a beautiful truth that there is a rich life waiting for us in the hereafter. I know that when I die it will be the beginning of a life even more joyful than this. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Any religion that is good can help make you a better person and guide you to joy in your life. There is a special feeling I get from the Book of Mormon and attending the Mormon Church that I know can only be divine. We call it the Spirit of God or Holy Ghost. Show more Show less

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

I'm not sure WHY. Many men who were asked to marry multiple women did not like the idea or find it enjoyable. But with obedience comes blessings and those who obeyed were blessed in a time of great hardship. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Women: dress modestly. Men: gently show disapproval of immodesty to the women you associate with. All: avoid trashy television and any other medium that treats sex lightly. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Besides the potential health effects, obedience to the command to avoid coffee, tea and alcohol brings blessings. Many would argue that drinking coffee, for example, is not harmful. I don't care either way. I find that following any commandment from God brings blessings, even when we don't see a good reason. Show more Show less
