Hi I'm Dave

I'm a web developer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a software engineer. I've worked with computers since I was a little boy and find joy in creating things which run on a computer. I was married on January 2000 which makes it easy to remember my anniversary and how many years I've been sealed to my wife. We have 5 adorable children. It's fun to watch my children grow up and each find their own path of creation. Whether it be music, art, poetry, or machines they find ways to create things of substance which didn't exist before they dreamed it up and made it a reality.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I cherish freedom. By following the prophets council in the scriptures and following the living prophets of today my life is full of joy mostly because I am free to act instead of being acted upon. The blessings and opportunities available to me and my family continue to increase as I live the gospel of Jesus Christ. By turning my entire life over to the Lord I have learned how much more He can do with me and how much more freedom I enjoy to act for myself instead of being chained to the desires of my temporal body and being acted upon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by taking my family to church each week where we can all learn about the life of Jesus, feel closer to God and closer to each other. I live my faith by attending the temple often to learn of my role as a child of God and how to better serve my brothers and sisters. I live my faith by sharing my testimony of the restored gospel and the joy it brings to me with everyone I meet.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Yes. Families are central to God's plan of happiness and the joy experienced by a husband and wife as they raise their children to find the happiness that comes from living the gospel of Jesus Christ is the key. We believe that we are all one big spiritual family which is why some Mormons may seem a little over zealous to share their testimony with you. You are a child of God and one of my spiritual siblings. We can be together forever if we choose to follow the plan laid out for us by our Father in Heaven. Remember that this life, however short, is part of eternity and when a family chooses to live the gospel of Jesus Christ and have faith in Him they are certain to feel the eternal joy that can be theirs even now. Think of your fondest memory and most likely it will be something you shared as a family. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Donating 10% of my income to the church is called Tithing and it has been funding good deeds around the world for centuries (see Malachi 3:10-12). Even with all the good that is done with tithing money it is still something that is not always easy to pay. Every time I pay a full and honest tithe I know my spirit is in control because the natural man usually has some excuse not to do it. As I continue to pay a full tithing the Lord has blessed me and my family with this knowledge that our spirits can control our natural tendency to be selfish. It feels good knowing that I am helping my fellow brothers and sisters around the world and it feels even better knowing that my Father in Heaven is taking care of my family and me. What is faith?

Each of us can choose to "Act" or "Be Acted Upon" those who excercise faith in God and choose to "Act" on that faith will eventually come to know all things and even the mysteries of God will be unfolded unto them. In order to determine your faith just look at your actions. Someone without any faith may sit around idle and wait for something to happen to them (to be acted upon) while someone with faith in God will desire to pray, attend church, go to the temple and learn all they can about Him and their relationship to Him (they will act). I often ask myself if a choice I'm about to make will make me more free (increase my ability to Act) or make me less free (force me to be acted upon). Your spirit knows the difference between right and wrong. Choosing the right will bring peace to our souls and always make us more free. It becomes easier to discern over time when my spirit is in control over my body and I'm "choosing to act" or when my body is holding my spirit captive and I'm "being acted upon". By exercising faith in Jesus Christ and turning my entire life over to the Lord I have learned how much more He can do with me and how much more freedom to act that I enjoy over staying chained to the desires of my physical body, driven with the winds of change to and fro and merely being acted upon. Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Throughout time, temples have always been built and dedicated unto the God who created this Earth. I believe that our loving Heavenly Father wants all of His children to receive the eternal truths and ordinances of the temple. Temples will continue to be built all around the world so that everyone in our eternal family that desires to come unto Christ and learn of Him will be able to. I attend the temple as often as I can to feel my Savior's love, reflect upon my life and relationship to Him, learn of eternal truths and receive glimpses into the eternities both before and after this mortal life. One thing I've learned is that when you live forever you make a lot of friends! I hope that you will be able to join me in the temple one day. After you are baptised and meet all of the other worthiness requirements you can learn for yourself how much you mean to the Savior. Show more Show less

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

All of us are born with spiritual knowledge of what is virtuous and good. All of us are also born with imperfect bodies so we will sometimes choose things that are neither virtuous nor good. We may even choose things that are addictive or self-destructive knowing it isn't what we really desire. Life may seem short, compared to eternity, but it is long enough for each of us to feel our Savior's love and learn why we need a Savior. In order to know what love is we need to experience love. In order to bless others we need to experience being blessed. In order to be forgiven we need to forgive. Show more Show less
