Hi I'm Gary Todd

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently serving a mission for the LDS Church. I serve full-time online teaching people the Gospel through the mormon.org chat feature. I'm 20 yrs old, and I was a business major in college before I came on my mission. I'll return to that when I go home in about a year.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe it to be the Lord's Kingdom re-established on the earth in these days. It is the way and means to salvation. Through living its principles we can, and will be able to return to live with God, our Eternal Father, again.

How I live my faith

Right now I live my faith by actively preaching about it as a full-time missionary. I've taken two years of my time and devoted it solely to sharing the message that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and that this is His church on the earth once more.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Gary Todd
Of course not! Joseph Smith is like Moses. A very respectable person, and a prophet of God. But it wouldn't make any sense to worship him. He's done things worthy of respect and admiration... But nothing that is deserving of worship. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Gary Todd
The basic beliefs of the church, and any questions or concerns you might have. I'm a missionary who serves online full-time. So to get an idea of what missionaries would be like in your home you could just use mormon.org's chat feature and talk to me directly! Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Gary Todd
We believe baptism to be a necessary ordinance for salvation. Ordinance is just a word that means a ceremony where a person makes sacred promises with God, called covenants. Many people don't have the chance to even learn about baptism while they are living. And how fair would it be for them to be condemned for not being baptized just because they didn't know they need to be? So we perform the ordinance for them using a living proxy. They have the ability to either accept or reject the ordinance done for them. While they wait for the time when they can be judged and receive their eternal reward they wait in a place called the Spirit World. Log on and chat with one of the missionaries to find out more about what the Spirit World is. : Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Gary Todd
Ancient prophets who lived in the Americas wrote the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith is only affiliated with the Book of Mormon because he translated the ancient record that was written by those prophets. Nephi is one of those prophets and he gives his testimony that the book is true in 2 Nephi 33. You can look up that chapter online through scriptures.lds.org if you don't have your own copy of the Book of Mormon and read what this ancient prophet has to say regarding the record he was making. What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Gary Todd
It's our divine witness or confirmation from God, through the Holy Ghost, that the things that we believe are true. This testimony is gained as we have faith and exercise that faith to follow God. It's gained by reading the scriptures, and praying and following God's commandments. And anybody can receive a testimony of these things. God is no, "respecter of persons". He wants ALL of His children here on this earth to know Him and to follow Him. Show more Show less

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Gary Todd
Nope. We haven't practiced polygamy in over 100 yrs. Other groups who took off from the LDS Church practice. But they are in no way affiliated with us. Many of these groups don't hold many of our same beliefs anymore either. That's something that has changed over time. They've moved further and further away from what we believe. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Gary Todd
Best way I know of is to read the Book of Mormon, and pray about it. It seems simple right?? It is. That's the way God set it up. Jesus Christ talks about the fruits of living prophets in Matthew 7: 16-20. Well the Book of Mormon is one of those fruits! So if you find out it is true, then you can know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that the church that he re-organized on the earth is what he claimed it to be The Church of Jesus Christ. God has promised us that He will answer our prayers through the power of the Holy Ghost. As you read the Book of Mormon, and pray about it, you'll be able to receive those answers from God in that way. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Gary Todd
We believe that it is through the Grace of God, and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that we can be saved. This is the only way we gain salvation. There is no other way than through Jesus Christ That does not limit our personal responsibility to follow God and do the things that He asks us to do. We will be judged by our works just like it says in Revelations. I think a good way of describing it is found in the book of Matthew. Chapter 7, verse 21: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." Show more Show less

What is faith?

Gary Todd
To use a scripture from the Bible... "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."- Hebrews 11:1 We believe that faith is an action word. When we have faith we are willing to do. When we have faith we hope something that we may not be able to see, but which is still there. Show more Show less
