Hi I'm Mark Thomas Meeks

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 54 years old, I'm married, have 1 child, 2 grandchildren whom I adore, and proud to admit I am a Mormon. Living in California for 40 years of my life (the first 10 in the San Diego area, the other 30 in the San Francisco Bay Area) has strengthened my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I was inactive in the church for a while before meeting my soul mate. When I was in San Mateo, the only time I was going to church was when it was my month in the Library. I am truly blessed I married a woman who led me back into activity in the church. I have a job in the Manti Temple now that my recommend has been reinstated.

Why I am a Mormon

You could say I am a lifer: that is, someone who has been in the church his entire life. It wasn't hard in my early life, since my dad was ordained a bishop the week after I turned 6 in National City. He was set apart as Bishop of the Boise 18th Ward when I was 17, so he was in my Priest's quorum meeting, since he was also the president of the Aaronic Priesthood and the Priest's quorum by virtue of his calling as Bishop. I went on a mission when I turned 20 to Ohio, a place that still holds a special place in my heart. I rejoiced on that June day in 1978 ( in my last area on my mission, Zanesville) when the word from Salt Lake that all worthy male members of the Church were eligible to hold the Priesthood. That means that all people, regardless of race, are now entitled to all the blessings of the priesthood, which includes participating in the ordinances of the temple. After studying the scriptures, some more than 8 times, I've come to know a surety that this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is the only true and living church on the face of this earth, with the same organization as the original church that Christ organized in his day. I know that God lives, that Jesus is his only Begotten Son and our elder brother, and that Satan is doing all in his power to subvert with will of our Father. I know we stand out among other churches in that we have a Prophet at its head who can at any time speak in the name of the Lord, and say, "Thus saith the Lord." I gained a true sense of this out of a talk by Hugh B. Brown called, "Profile of a Prophet," where he details a conversation he had and his testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel. It's a great listen on the BYU Speeches website.

How I live my faith

I live my faith according to the commandments that our Heavenly Father has laid out. I am a strict observer of the Word of Wisdom, I try to be honest in all my dealings, I attend church as often as I can. I participate in the Family History class in my congregation, as I am also a Service Missionary at the Family History Center in Hurricane.
