Hi I'm Lorraine

"I live in Waco, Texas. I'm a wife and mother of four. I'm a Mormon."

About Me

I am a mom to four children, the youngest of which has hypoplastic left heart syndrome. I love music, reading, and foreign languages. I've been a Spanish teacher, a library volunteer, a tutor, and a songwriter. Now I'm learning about hearts.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents and grandparents are all members of the Church. As I grew up in a home where we read the scriptures, prayed together, attended Church, and learned about the gospel of Jesus Christ, I wanted to know for myself. I began reading the scriptures and praying on my own, and even when I left home for college I continued studying, praying, and attending Church meetings. I have come to know for myself that following the teachings of Jesus Christ and his living prophet bring me happiness and help me through my trials.

How I live my faith

At church I'm responsible for the children's classes. I help teachers, music leaders, and parents. I love teaching the children that they can feel Heavenly Father's love for them, and that they can have faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, and using stories from the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I also participate in a Mothering group about once a month. I meet with other mothers to talk about how to have peace in our home, how to teach children about gratitude and hard work, and how to follow the Savior's example as a mother.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Our prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. We keep a picture of him displayed in our home near a picture of Christ teaching a child to help our children understand that the prophet teaches us about Jesus and so they will recognize him when we listen to him speak to us. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We believe that we are dependent on our Savior, Jesus Christ. Through His suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection, he took upon himself all of our sins and made it possible for us to repent, be forgiven, and return to live with our Heavenly Father someday. His grace also helps us to pray, to forgive others, to serve others, and follow His example. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

The Law of Chastity teaches us that we should have no sexual relations before marriage, and only with our legal and lawful spouse after marriage. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending a Mormon Church and a Mormon Temple?

We meet each Sunday at a church building where as a family and a congregation we take the sacrament, sing hymns, participate in Sunday School classes and worship together. A temple is a sacred place where members of the Church learn more about our Heavenly Father's love for us and his plan for us and our families. My husband and I were married in a temple and made promises to each other and to God. If we are faithful to each other in this life, we and our children can be together forever. Show more Show less
