Hi I'm Nathan

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm finishing up my last semester of an education degree at the University of Alberta. I completed a degree in Physics prior to deciding that I wanted to teach it and I'm looking forward to being finished, but I'm not looking forward to repaying student loans. Eventually I would like to become involved with developing educational policy and practice. I love sports, especially volleyball, basketball and squash. I also love singing and dancing and wish I was better at both. Music has always been a large part of my life and I enjoy listening to people who have spent years developing their talents in these areas. My faith has also played a significant role in my life which is why I am sharing it through this forum.

Why I am a Mormon

I belong to this church because of my conviction that it is guided by prophets and apostles who in turn are guided by Jesus Christ. I believe this relationship, whereby God communicates to us through people chosen by Him was missing for a period of time but restored through Joseph Smith in 1830. I believe that since then God has continued to call people to serve as prophets and apostles to guide His church today. I believe that by being a member of His Church, I am doing my best to follow the direction He gave to "follow thou me." I know that doing my best to follow the Saviour will bring me the greatest fulfillment in my life.

How I live my faith

My faith in Jesus Christ and my belief that those who lead this church are chosen by Him means I accept responsibilities extended to me by those leaders. Currently I am responsible for leading a group of men from our local congregation. One of our main purposes is service to the other members of our congregation and the community. The service is temporal, such as helping someone complete a landscaping project or find a job and spiritual, such as visiting someone who is going through a rough time. Being involved in service to others has been one of the greatest opportunities of my life. It has helped me to come to a better understanding of who I am and how we're really not that different from each other we're all just trying to do our best to be happy and stumbling along the way. It's also helped me to realize the difference that kindness and understanding can make in the life of a person who feels like they are stumbling quite a bit more than everyone else.
