Hi I'm Daniel

I'm a writer. I'm a manager. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm in my mid-twenties, married with a young daughter and another something on the way. I spend whatever little spare time I can writing short stories and articles, while theoretically working on a novel. I work in a call centre as a manager where, I hope, I make a difference in people's lives even on a small scale.

Why I am a Mormon

I came first came to church as a way to spend more time with my now wife. But as I spent more and more time listening to the teachings of the church and discussing doctrine I found myself sending more time not only wife my wife but also with my God. I joined the church because it just made sense to me and because, kneeling in prayer, I received a testimony of the truthfulness of what I had been taught

How I live my faith

I act as a secretary in one of the local priesthood groups and run family history classes for my local church community.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Men and women serve equal and complimentary roles in life. In The Family: A Declaration to the World we are told: "By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children." Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No.Whilst the first prophet of the new dispensation is held in high regard and honoured for his contribution to restoring the gospel, he is not seen as deity or worshiped as an individual. Joesph Smith is like the Mormon Mohammad: a critical figure the church rests upon, but ultimately the servant of the Lord in leading His church. Show more Show less

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Many, many things. The money collected by tithes is sent to church headquarters where a council distributes it for the upkeep of buildings, design and production of teaching materials and supporting those in need both on a global and local level. The money is also used in the worldwide effort to spread the gospel through providing of materials for missionaries and in the building of temples. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

What happens in the temple is not secret, but it is very sacred. In the temples worthy members - those living by the basic tenets of the church - are able to undertake a range of ordinances for themselves. In these ordinances they make promises with Heavenly Father and receive promises in return, like being able to keep their family with them forever. They can also do all the ordinances living people can for their ancestors who never had the chance in their life. in this way, everyone that has ever been on Earth can live in eternal families. Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Church members are just like you: they celebrate birthdays, national holidays and the big Christian calender events: Easter and Christmas. In fact, Latter-day Saints find as many reasons to celebrate as they can! Sunday services are generally attended in the best clothes you have, and appropriate to local weather and customs. Weekday events may be more casual but Latter-day Saints will always dress modestly. Show more Show less

How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?

You'll probably find there is a Latter-day Saint somewhere very nearby to you, quietly going about their business. If you happen to know one, go ask them your question: they'll be very happy to answer them and won't be the least bit judgmental. If you don't know any Saints, trying using the chat feature on this site, go to http://mormon.org/missionaries/ to organise a visit from a missionary or come down to your local branch or ward on a Sunday morning (you can find your local by visiting lds.org/maps) Show more Show less
